Note

Well it is April which means it isn't far from the official cottage opening (aka camping) weekend in May so it is time to start thinking about paddling trips for the summer. My new kayak is still under construction but is looking pretty good.

Orienteering 50:00 [3] ***
spiked:18/26c

sore legs, knees and back going into the race. missed cp#1 then fell hard on the way to cp#2 and the wheels came off after that. sore knees means slow running and not concentrating on the map. net result was a sufferfest. It was one of those 'shut up legs' kind of days.

despite the thick woods it was a fun weekend. Great announcing and music by Vlad the DJ, lots of controls which is great for early in the season, and good maps.

Serge, AG! and Isak shared the GHO flying Pig award! Photo coming soon.
Once again I am very happy for Serge and his strong performances this weekend. Strong and confident orienteering. Well done Runit!

Note

First three months of 2012 in the books and training has been good. nearly 25% of my training is orienteering which is why I train in the first place. ;-)

Water running seems to be making a difference but I need to bring back the yoga and keep the hips strong and loose if I want to be able to string together three days of outdoor running in a row.

Orienteering 40:00 [3] ***
spiked:23/28c

Pig Middle #2. great day for GHO. Sudden broke trail, Serge took the win and I took advantage of Sudden's trail and the control picking exercise. Isak and AG! with two more wins. Serge with the three wins in three races. Great to see!

Lost 5, 15, 30, 30, and 15 seconds on # 10, 12, 14, 16 and 25. very fun race with the constant concentration. essentially a middle distance forest sprint race.

Orienteering 45:00 [3]
spiked:22/23c

Pig middle#1. hot, hilly and thick. only one 10 sec error and good flow except walking on the steep hills. Serge with the elite win and almost a Cdn sweep. Isak and AdventureGirl! with wins as well.

Was in first place before all the mid course climbing kicked in. lost 1 minute climbing aka walking to #13 just on speed and then lost more on the climb aka walk to #16. I seemed to have similar speed on the flat and downhill sections though forgot about losing 15 seconds to #20 when my shoe came off in a mud puddle. ARK'ers would be proud!

so happy to see Serge take the win!

Forgot how much this hurts.

Griz, Pathetic, Backwoods and I are off to the ARK in Niagara info night tonight. Hopefully there is a good turn-out. Speaking of ARK, the participation in our ARK in Hamilton spring session continues to grow.

Spring 2010 - 80 kids (capped at 80)
Spring 2011 - 105 kids (capped at 100)
Spring 2012 - 188 kids (capped at 180)

Ever since our first season we cap the season and then more volunteer coaches emerge to let us add a few more kids to the program. We have the most awesome volunteers!
