Warmup

Drills 4:02 [2] 0.21 mi (19:12 / mi)

Orienteering 17:22 [4] 1.93 mi (9:00 / mi) +48m 8:21 / mi

US Sprint Champs @ Cabrillo College

A good race. First set of controls went really well, then stair confusion at #7 threw me. Mad after that, but got confused again with all the pink around the underground parking garage, could have been faster if I wasn't worried I was crossing illegal crossing marks. (Probably could have made sense of this with more oxygen in my brain).

Then was trailing Siri who was running well for ~8 controls and then broke away with a different route to one of the final controls.

Fun to have all the competition!!
12 PM

Running 5:12 [3] 0.48 mi (10:53 / mi)

Orienteering 21:18 [3] 2.53 mi (8:25 / mi) +71m 7:44 / mi

Think I had the shortest forking. So other women would have been closer to me if we'd had the same distance. Got way scratched up at one point.

Running 9:02 [3] 0.85 mi (10:38 / mi) +24m 9:46 / mi

Running 7:24 [3] 0.55 mi (13:27 / mi) +47m 10:37 / mi

Cool down with Ann Marie and Tori, until we encountered Tom + Sylvia on their white course, then I joined in the white course fun!

Note

Travel day!! Must lecture this morning (temperature - more complicated than 99.99% of people know), then off to the races + toddler summit! =)

Running 14:21 [1] 1.57 mi (9:08 / mi) +30m 8:38 / mi

Warm up around Eastmoreland.

Drills 6:41 [2] 0.34 mi (19:40 / mi)

3 x normal hippity-hop drills

Orienteering 15:20 [4] 1.9 mi (8:04 / mi) +43m 7:33 / mi

Decided I should get on a sprint map before US Champs, and hey, luckily I work on one. So went out midday and did a course on a black-and-white map from 2014. Think really only one control site was messed up from the new dorms.

Running 20:49 [1] 2.35 mi (8:51 / mi)

Cool down around Reed/Creston neighborhood.

First lecture of the semester. Thermal physics: heat and probability review for the day. So busy. Not sure I'm going to catch up until after US champs + SART the next two weekends...

Aug report:

106.52 mi of running, orienteering (no stroller jogging this whole month?) so makes the >100 mi goal.

But, only 25h of training, wanted 30h. Was mostly getting high-quality stuff in, not padded with hours of Pilates or aerobics. Still, that stuff is good for me and injury prevention, so should do some more of it.

Went to WOC, performed as well as I could have hoped with not really having either enough technical or physical training. I started the year hoping to best previous WOC results, but after the three weeks on crutches, I knew that would be out of the question and it really wasn't clear what might be a goal to shoot for until the weeks immediately before WOC. Set a goal of top-45 in the long and made it. Wanted to do much better in the relay, but just didn't have the physical oomph or the confidence in my map reading to stay with the packs.

Organized an event at Deschutes Daze. It's a lot of work, especially when you're also partly minding a toddler on a 3 night camping trip. But it's really nice to give back to the community, when I know I have mostly benefitted from others putting on events for me. It was very rewarding to hear people come back and having enjoyed the courses yesterday.

Sept goals:
The >30h and >100 mi goals montly goals stand. Performance-wise, I will try to win US Champs in the Long and Sprint and really fight for the highest place at SART (fun that it's just men-women combined). There's a fun 5k at Reed that's hillier than the last 5k I did. I'll try for a sub 19 and see how it goes.

Training-wise, want to be doing at least three running and one rollerskiing or biking workout during the week and one Pilates or aerobics. It'll be hard now that school is back in session.
10 AM

Running hills 48:51 intensity: (33:51 @1) + (15:00 @4) 4.74 mi (10:18 / mi) +265m 8:47 / mi

Apparently Big Basin is *way* hilly. So a last-ditch attempt to get some last hill strength in the legs.

5 x up the trail + road end-of-canyon hill
5 x up the road-only end-of-canyon hill

And then scampered to shower and bike back to first office hours of the semester!
