DC25K@1:59. (Chubb trail potion in 1:44:36). Plus warmup/dn.

So, Daniel's wanted me to do 16 miles at marathon pace which sounded really dismal to me. Not hard, just not much fun. Then, I remembered that I came unglued at almost exactly 3 hours in the DC50 last spring, so that meant my opening lap (2 hours on the nose) was probably really close to correct marathon pace. So, did a repeat of that. If nothing else, a much more interesting run than banging out 6:40's on the flood plain. Really turned out to be quite fun, too.

Warm up.

Orienteering (Woods) 1:16:57 [3] ***

SLOC Long Farsta at Queeny (1:10). David didn't show so I decided to run firm and rely on clean nav to carry the day rather than trash my legs for tomorrow's Q run. Failed on both counts - nav was sloppier than I'd like (though Queeny is pretty forgiving in that respect, so I didn't lose much time) and I think I did take it out of my legs. Still good enough for the win, but not by much. The 2nd tier of SLOC'ers is becoming a real threat. Not sure one could do much to improve on Yvonne's courses; staying predominantly in the woods yet missing most of the really nasty stuff. Also lots of route choice, none of which was compromised by the map (which was never good and is now worse). Quite a trick at Queeny.

Orienteering (Park) 23:41 [3] **

Since I'd already taken it out of my legs, I did the short Farsta as well to get some practice on 1:5. Appropriately trivial nav (there was no other beginner course offered), but fun.

Lewis trail. I usually run this in the context of a Q workout. It was nice to remind myself of the pleasures of running a great trail just for the sake of running it and not worry about the watch (though I'll admit I did check it a few times and think, "Wow, really?") No worries; plenty of opportunities to run fast over the next 10 weeks.

Running (Road) 59:00 [2]
weight:169lbs shoes: Speedstar 6

Old Farm with 6 striders. Legs are way off but got through the striders fine. Pretty happy to be holding the line on the G. While I expect a modest bump over the holidays, I really don't want to have to drop 5 pounds during the toughest part of marathon training. Tough workouts + lack of food => sickness.

Running (Road) 1:32:00 [3]

4@25:30. Big Lake Paved plus a mile on the track.

Wasn't sure I was ready for quality work again, so ran the first mile of tempo on the track figuring if I didn't come right up to speed, I'd push the workout back a day. First lap was a couple seconds slow, but it was no problem to lift the pace.

Oddly enough, the shoes felt great when running fast (I'm pretty much certain I'll use these for the marathon), but seemed to strike weird during the easy hour that followed. Maybe it was just that my stride was shot or maybe these shoes really are only good when you're moving along. I'll wear them for the long M-pace run this weekend to make sure.

Page Loop...

Gym (Weights) 15:00 [3]

... with a stop at the gym for a couple light sets to see if the shoulder was ready for any resistance. Definitely still a few weeks away from anything heavy, but the motions felt OK.
7 PM

Running (Road) 43:00 [3]

Kate's sick so I had to take Yaya to cello class. It was a long session because she was making up a session. I passed the time with an easy jog around Town & Country.

Note
(rest day)

Really don't feel bad. A little stiffness in the quads, but nothing out of the ordinary. Still, PM was clearly a full on effort, so a full off recover day is in order.
