Terrain (Trail) 15:00 [2]
shoes: Jalas Green

Warmup.

Orienteering race (Woods) 1:07:22 [4] *** 8.2 km (8:13 / km) +400m 6:36 / km
14c shoes: Jalas Green

Long Pig at Mt. Airy (1:10). Fourth solid but unspectacular run of the weekend. 2nd M45 behind Voit who demolished me on the long legs even though we took nearly identical routes. Fitness is obviously a problem.

Terrain (Grass) 15:00 [2]
shoes: Jalas Green

Warmup. Included a practice trip down the big slide because if I was setting a sprint course at a venue that had a big slide right next to the finish, I'd sure make that a viable route.

Orienteering race (Woods) 18:43 [4] *** 2.25 km (8:19 / km) +60m 7:20 / km
15c shoes: Jalas Green

Pig Sprint at Burnet Woods. Either a very woodsy park or very parkish woods. I think I'll call it parkish woods. Anyway, a decent run for me, especially considering I haven't run a sprint since last fall. And, I got to use the slide.

Results were all jacked up because some of the SI units were programmed wrong so I have no idea how I did.

Update: 13th overall, 2nd M45 behind Voit. Good result for me.

Terrain (Grass) 32:00 [2]

Warmup for the relay. Spread out over about an hour because I had no idea when Ed would get in. Turns out I was about 100m from the exchange when he showed up, but I sprinted back for the tag just as he hit the finish punch.

Orienteering race (Woods) 44:10 [4] *** 5.4 km (8:11 / km) +395m 5:59 / km
19c shoes: Jalas Green

US Relay Champs. Anchored the SLOC 8-point team at Mt. Airy (1:10). Another good but not great run. Fun course. We were way out of it by the time I took the tag (top 3 teams had finished), but I still found decent motivation. Passed a few to get us 6th among eligible teams.

Running (Road) 23:00 [2]

Easy morning jog to loosen up for the car trip.

Terrain (Trail) 10:00 [3]
shoes: Jalas Green

Warmup. With Yaya present, there wasn't much chance for a proper warmup, but the course was sufficiently technical that I wouldn't have taken it out much harder anyway. It might have actually been to my advantage as quite a few folks messed up the first control.

Orienteering race (Woods) 39:11 [4] *** 4.2 mi (9:20 / mi) +260m 7:49 / mi
18c shoes: Jalas Green

Middle Pig at McFarlan Woods (1:10). Decent run on a fun course. Map contact was generally quite good and I wasn't hesitating much. Footing was bad on the trails, but fine in the woods. I still used the trails a fair bit to get through thick areas. 3rd in M45, about 25 seconds behind Lyons and Voit.

Running (Road) 38:00 [2]
shoes: 2140 Black

Easy morning jog round the hood. Legs felt springy and I might have pushed it just a bit harder than I should have; I usually run this loop in 40-41 minutes before a race. No biggie.

Cycling (Road) 38:00 [2]
shoes: Bike:Redline Mono

Connecting the other two activites on roads.

Tae Kwon Do (Technique) 30:00 [3]

Midday adult class.

FatTire (Trail) 40:00 [2]
shoes: Bike:Redline Mono

Singletrack at CC Lake. Wasn't sure how well I'd do on the ditch crossings with the full-rigid, but it turns out to be easier because you don't have to worry about the rebound kicking the front wheel off the ground when you come up the other side. After a few tentative dips, I was pretty much hammering through them full speed. The 58 is a bit too much gear for this trail, but I wasn't in any danger of stalling, even on the tight switchbacks. The simplicity of just pedalling and not worrying about gears or shock settings is really liberating. It's funny that, even though the initial reason for getting the bike is now obsolete, it's becoming my most favorite toy.

Note
(rest day)

Restin' up for the Pig. Went to the Banff Mountain Film Festival at the Moolah with David, Yvonne, Ken & Cathy, Karen Holtmann, and the Sonas. Much of it was good, but I was disappointed that the feature film was an eco-plea about some copper mine in Alaska. Seemed like an hour of preaching to the choir. Nobody in the theater thought that building an open pit mine on top of a salmon estuary was a good idea when the film started. I would have rather seen more cool stuff.

Running (Road) 1:04:00 [2]
shoes: 2140 Black

Literally running errands at lunchtime. Up the River Valley climb at a pace that was uncomfortable. Everything else was mellow.

Tae Kwon Do (Technique) 30:00 [2]

Family class with Yaya. Managed to get through all 20 pushups.

Tae Kwon Do (Technique) 20:00 [2]

Then stayed for the adult class, but nobody else showed. Good part of that was that I didn't have to do more pushups. The better part was that I got a private lesson to work out some of the more difficult transitions in my form. Feels much more natural now.

Note

Yaya has been going on about our "3 day race" incessantly. I guess that's a good thing, though I'm getting tired of saying "no, not today, this weekend."

Orienteering (Woods) 37:44 [4] *** 5.0 km (7:33 / km) +175m 6:25 / km
12c shoes: Jalas Green

Rockwoods Test Loop (1:15). Was a bit limited on time so went with no warmup - not the best way to do the test loop. Took it a bit easy at first, loosing a couple minutes to normal Test Loop pace in just the first 4 controls. Continued to loose time after that, but moving better. Nowhere near a PR, but certainly satisfies the "speed in the woods" workout. We'll see how fast I go when it counts this weekend.
