Cycling (Road) 58:00 [2]
weight:166lbs

In to work.

Cycling (Road) 3:01:00 intensity: (1:30:00 @2) + (1:31:00 @3)

Back home. MRT to Chain of Rocks then further north on Columbia Bottom to Spanish Lake and west across north county. Second half was pretty solid tempo, but mostly I just wanted to try out Kenny's fancy new multiple intensity feature.

Cycling (Road) 56:00 [2]
weight:165lbs

In to work. Finally got an early enough start that it was easy to be under an hour (slight tailwind helped, too).

Cycling (Road) 2:09:00 [2]

Back home via Midland and then north to the airport and over to Bridgeton. This was about 1:20 into the ride, so my total time in the saddle for the day was over 2 hours. As I had only eaten 1200 calories so far, that meant I was going net negative on the intake/workout differential (my target to hold weight is +2000). As yesterday was -600 for the day, I figured it was time to refuel.

So, I stopped at a 7-Eleven and picked up my current favorite and relished the fact that it was absolutely necessary that I force myself to eat it.

Sufficiently juiced, I dropped down to the flood plain and added a bit of quality by pounding the River Valley climb and the double hump through Old Farm.

Finished off the ride with some bike handling work. Not sure what I expected to gain from that as I have no intention of entering a criterium any time soon, but there's a certain satisfaction in keeping an old saw sharp.

Running (Road) 2:18:00 [2]
weight:168lbs

Running to work. Kinda pokey; I'd expect to run this in around 2:12. Best guess is lack of sleep the last couple nights. That might also explain why I got to work only to find that my locker key wasn't in my pack. Running back to get it wasn't really an option, so I had to call Kate and have her come bring it. Pretty much defeats the carbon footprint gains of running in. Probably will run up a big negative economically as well since getting her to include an emergency downtown trip in her morning routine of getting Baby-O to camp will set me back a nice dinner somewhere.

Cycling (Road) 2:09:00 [2]

Easy ride back home, mostly in the 60" gear. Took a southern route this time.

Grand/Gravois/Morganford to Grant's Trailhead. Despite passing through some of my favorite neighborhoods, I didn't much care for this section - too much traffic and it seemed like I hit an inordinate number of red lights. Once on Grant's Trail, it would be tough to improve the ride. Grant's Trail is newly paved and quite wide by bike path standards (Peter would like it a lot). It takes you all the way out to Kirkwood, which is the eastern edge of the really good riding terrian. If I had another two hours, I might have expoited that, but after this morning's episode, I knew not to even mention that idea to Kate. Instead, I went straight home to the north. Still good stuff. If I can find a better route to the trailhead, this may become my preferred way back home.

In to work. Would have been under an hour except I fell for a cheap marketing scheme. At Lindell & Compton I saw what looked a lot like a $100 bill in the gutter. Knowing that there are deals made on that corner where leaving a Benjamin behind might be the expedient course of action, I figured it could be legit. I went back to get it, but rather than Ben's face, it was some rapper I've never heard of. The back side instructed me to request some of his tunes next time I'm at a restaurant. I'd be happy to oblige, but I doubt India Palace has many of his hits.

Note

With some pretty heavy thunderstorms rolling through, Kate offered to come pick me up at work (in exchange for taking her to dinner in the Central West End). Seemed like a fair trade. Plus, I didn't need to cram in one last quality workout because my surgery is rescheduled until after Colorado (my primary care physician has ruled out the really nasty stuff, but wants to get a liver ultrasound prior to getting cut. I'm not sure what those have to do with each other, but I'm happy to put it off for a month).
