Cycling (Road) 30:00 [2]
weight:181lbs

AM: Warmup/dn.

Cycling race (Road) 43:00 [4]

Tour of St. Louis stage 3: Forest Park crit. I did better in the TT than I thought: 4th, moving me to 6th in the overall (behind the 5 guys who stayed away in the morning). With a pretty good gap both in front and behind, it fell to me to control the field for Joe and Rex (sitting in 2nd and 4th), both of whom wanted everything to stay together.

Lots of hammering on the front. Sometimes I'd join the break and sit on, other times I'd let them get 15 seconds up and then bring the field up. Must have crossed at least 10 gaps. It was fun to just hammer like that and not worry about results. Being on the front did payoff somewhat - I closed down a break 100m before the line on a prime lap and just went right by them to take the prize. Chased back the last break with 200m to go, so obviously had nothing for the field sprint. Finished at the back of the pack, but kept 6th in the overall.

Orienteering (Park) 1:14:00 [2] **

After the race, I did a long control picking course at Forest Park (1:10).

Running (Mix) 1:11:00 [2]

PM: STL Hash #1170. Was pretty much dogging it, but it was good to see all the hashers again. BBQ after the run may have an unwanted impact on tomorrows G reading.

Warmup/down.

Cycling race (Road) 49:00 [4]

Tour of St. Louis, stage 1. I almost didn't ride this because criteriums in cold rain aren't really my idea of a good time. I'm glad I did though, it turned out to be pretty fun despite the weather. The course at Carondolet is all gentle curves, so it wasn't dangerous. Got in an early break. Two of my teammates joined the counterattack when we were caught, so that gave me a free pass in the field. Just missed a field prime and got fourth in the field sprint for 9th in M40. Good race for the team - 2nd, 5th, and 9th.

Cycling (Road) 1:08:00 [2]

Warmup/dn. Warmup was longer than expected because they held the start while the officials decided if the conditions were too dangerous.

Cycling race (Road) 6:46 [5]

Tour of St. Louis stage 2. Greensfelder Time Trial. Used a 25 on the climb, which felt tall, but my teammates who used a 27 didn't do any better. Not sure of my place, since they said they won't have that sorted out until morning, but I'm pretty sure it's between 5th and 10th in M40. Weather conditions made this the Scariest Time Trial Ever.

Note

Just before the TT, my cleats slipped on a wet walkway and I fell. I figure if anything was going to set my back off, that would be it. So, even though there's still a little pain, I'm taking the injury flag off.

Cycling (Road) 3:38:00 [3]
weight:181lbs (injured)

First two hours were running a couple errands at a modest clip - first down to Affton to drop off some maps for Dave Welsh, then over to Big Shark to register for tomorrows races. Then better tempo with a few hills back home.

Back is really stiff this morning - not sure why, but I was planning on taking it easy today anyway.

Also a bit on the fat side. They had a pot-luck at work yesterday for all the people who were rolling off the project. Since that included me, I decided to enjoy it and ignore the G consequences. With 5 races and 20-30 hours on the schedule for the next 10 days, I'm not too worried about it.

Running (Road) 43:00 [2]

With baby-O in the jogger.

Well, I won't say it was just what the doctor ordered, because I'm sure no competent doctor would have advised yesterday's workout given my condition. However, my back was looking almost straight this morning (less than 1cm offset from sternum to navel, at worst it was bent about 3cm to the right), so it seems that things are pretty close to healed up.

Running (Road) 42:00 [2]

To/from Y. Back still hurts on downhills, so I guess it's not really better yet.

Swimming (Pool) 21:00 [3]

2x250@4:30 1:00R then 500 easy.
