orienteering 30:00 [2]
11c

When I woke up I decided my right foot felt ok and that I'd try to run the Green course. I started walking to the start. After a few hundred meters I jogged a bit. That was enough. My foot hurt. It was ok on smooth and flat surfaces, but uneven was uncomfortable.

On my walk back, I decided I might be able to walk a white or yellow course. I checked if that was possible and if I needed to do anything to move from Green to a rec course. No problems, just go to the start and pick a course

I walked the Yellow course. It was ok but there were a couple of where I gad to cross some rocky ground and that hurt my foot.

orienteering race 45:00 [4]
18c

West Point middle distance Green course.

I walked a lot. I'm not in practice at running in rocky terrain (or on side slopes with loose leaves). The navigation went well. My mind worked well.

I saw Emil G. off and on. I didn't know who he was until after the finish.

Two controls from the end I took a step and my right foot hurt. I'm not sure excactly what happened. Whatever it was, slowed me down a bit.

orienteering race 15:00 [4]
13c

West Point campus sprint.

My foot wasn't normal, but it felt like something that'd be ok once I got moving. I felt it warming up (and that's why I didn't warm up as much as I should have). I felt it a few times on the course.

The first leg involved immediately turning down hill and I did that. But then I didn't see the flag when I expected it. I stopped and looked at the map. Then I took a couple of steps and saw the flag.

Fun.

Note

On the drive home my right foot was uncomfortable anytime I had to push on the brake. Then it started feeling more uncomfortable after dinner (Stephen ordered delivery from a Japanese restaurant). Walking up stairs to the guest room wasn't so nice.

Note

Travel day. No big problems, but Newark was crowded. Overall, about 30 percent of the people seemed to be wearing masks (KC, on the plane, and at Newark).

running 40:00 [2]

Morning jog with my headlamp. I turned the headlamp off after just over 10 minutes. I don't expect to need it at all starting next week.

I often see runners on Wednesday mornings. I think there's a group that runs from the Lied Center at about 5:30.

A day off yesterday was a good idea. My legs felt pretty good this morning.
