I struggled a lot to see the map. The rain fogged my glasses and my magnifier. The darkness made it hard to make sense of the map. I've never had so much trouble before. I've noticed my eyes getting a bit worse in the last 6-months.
Still, it was fun to have a new sort of problem to solve - how to orienteer when you couldn't read the map when you wanted to (I had to find areas where the trees opened a bit in order to see the map). I also had to come to a complete stop to read the map (and only by holding it right in front of my face and using a magnifier).
It is a whole lot different to be unable to read the map when you want to and to have to take the opportunities to read the map when they come up. I suppose I could practice by having some sort of random stops programmed into a watch and only read the map at those random stops. That might be interesting.
The first sprint. I got my act together after the first couple of legs. The course was fun - even running through the rough vegetation - and I felt like I was running pretty well (if slower than I'd like).
Early on I was caught by Eric Bone. I tried to get out of his way and ended up going a bit off the line I'd planned. It didn't really cost much, but I ended up in some thicker stuff than I'd have liked. Eric seemed to be orienteering a bit rough on the couple of legs I saw him.

Second sprint. The course was a bit long (for me) for a sprint - 3.5 km, I think. Not a complaint, just a comment.
I had another decent race but had one missed route choice that cost a good 20-30 seconds.
I was pretty happy with how my running felt (keeping in mind I'm a bit heavy and not very well trained).
I stayed at work a bit later than planned (having a chat about Government Auditing Standard 7.68...it is just as interesting as it sounds). So, I changed plans and decided to just row a bit when I got home.
I rowed, working on keeping my core strong and my upper body relaxed. I might have tried "getting to 3/4 feather at body prep," except I have no idea what that might mean.
For a change I ran on the levee. After warming up, I did 2 x 3 x 400 meters with 30 second rests. Felt awful at the start but finished better.
I did a "evening" shift with the PD last night. So, I didn't get my normal amount of sleep and felt a bit run down all day. A good night sleep will put it all right.
