SI Champs Middle. Nelson Lakes. Course: Middle 5,8 km
Took a while to get into the map, struggled to find 4, then was much more careful after that. Pretty happy with run from then on, about the same time as Chris, Brent and Oystein from there. Pretty intense stuff. Felt ok today as well, first time in a while

Got a stick in both eyes somewhere in the pivot loop, managed to see it at last split second and just tilt my head, had a quick sit down to check both eyeballs where still there then carried on not thinking much of it. Finished and had a few people looking at me with a shocking expression. Turns out some people are freaked out when it looks like your eyes are bleeding down your face. 2 puncture wounds in my bottom eyelids, now a bit sore and black, feeling a bit lucky actually

Katoa Po - Leg 5. Taupo. Course: Relay 4,7 km 160 m
Knee was sore on the first climb, so knew I couldn't push hard, so cruised around. Lost time on 2, not seeing the depression, on 3 I ended up a lot lower than I thought, 5 I couldn't tell was was a water course and what was a re-entrant, 8 I just got totally confused, looked at my compass and ran in one direction, then looked at it again and it turned 90 degrees, swear I had the same problem in the same bit of forest last year. Then lost a bit of time on 10 being too far right and not seeing the knoll behind a fallen tree.

Tried blasting myself off the blocks to see if that would either snap me out of this funk or break me, forgot about the third option = fucking it up. Wasn't really oing properly across the riverbed to 2, glanced at a few things, made then fit and charged in, spent the next 2 minutes trying to figure out where I was. Was ok after that but got progressivly slower. Missed little bits on 13 and 16

Started and couldn't get moving, Jula was smashing me in running speed. Pretty much as expected, fast and balls out which equalled pain. Did managed to pre-plan the last loop and didn't look at my map after the road crossing and think I did that ok in terms of splits, shows how much knowing exactly what you are doing helps

STB Stage 1 - Woodford. Hawkes Bay. Course: Sprint 2,9 km 140 m
WRE, was not great through the first complex controls, just couldn't get into it and couldn't read the (too) small gaps, got caught out on 7 like a lot of people. Tweeked my ankle while punching11, hopped around swearing before carrying on, slow up the hill but pre-planned the rest of the course, which ment a fastest split without even trying to split bag (just knew exactly where I was going)

Choice area, but struggled - again with body plus also route choices, not wanting to go which looked like harder running even tho I knew it was faster (legs 5 and 21) Lost a little bit of time after 19, didn't see the purple hash on the map, then thought the slides where the track.
