Orienteering race (Sprint) 24:23 [4] *** 2.4 km (10:10 / km)

Sprint Relay fundraiser at Manitou Lake. I ran the second leg on a team with JJ and Nancy. It went pretty well. I kept up a reasonably steady pace and was mostly clean. A little lost time at one control that I was basically standing next to, but not looking at.

Orienteering race (Long Champs) 2:24:44 [4] *** 9.3 km (15:34 / km) +300m 13:24 / km
spiked:3/9c

After yesterday's great race, I didn't put a lot of pressure on myself today and just tried to take a relaxed pace and take it easy. I didn't have any big errors, but a few minor errors close to the control. I also took a few less than optimal route choices. Generally happy with my race, but know that it was far from perfect.

Orienteering race (MIddle Champs) 46:02 [4] *** 3.7 km (12:26 / km) +125m 10:39 / km
spiked:6/9c

By far my best race of the week, which was unexpected. I've had some bad luck at past short champs and, while hoping for a good run, had no expectations of a win. But it turned out to be a day when staying technically clean was enough. Lots of tough parallel features kept it difficult and I managed to keep concentrated and smart and did well. Having run early and then going off to the Board meeting, I was pleasantly surprised when I heard from Sharon Crawford that I'd taken the gold medal. (Ok, anyone who saw me knows that I was more "ecstatically surprised")

Orienteering (Trail-O) 45:00 [1] *** 1.9 km (23:41 / km) +40m 21:26 / km
spiked:10/12c

Trail-O demo at Garden of the Gods. Very happy with how well I did on this. One of the ones that I missed was protested and officially thrown out, so my score was only missing one.

Orienteering race (Night Champs) 1:27:19 [2] *** 5.2 km (16:48 / km) +110m 15:11 / km
spiked:6/11c

It's pretty clear from my time that I was very slow on this. I just couldn't stay up to speed. I stopped a lot to be certain that I wasn't going off course. I also was having trouble with my left knee and that slowed me down as well. Two significant errors, although one of them apparently didn't cost me that much according to Winsplits. All in all, very disappointing.

Strength 11:00 [1]

Morning Exercises with Bob Turbyfill. This was kind of a mixed bag including some calisthenics, two short intervals, and some stretching. It was really intended just to show us how to do things and not really as a workout in it's own right. I just approximated the amount of time I was actually moving during this.

Orienteering (control tagging) 1:00:00 [1] *** 2.0 km (30:00 / km)

Setting up a field exercise for my coaching clinic group. I put out a precision compass course, so I was going kind of slow making sure I was accurate.

Orienteering 1:00:00 [4] ***

Completing my group's field exercises for the coaching clinic. A mixed bag of activities. It was really three separate smaller runs with some rest time between. I tried to go at a good training pace.

Orienteering race 1:18:53 [4] *** 6.8 km (11:36 / km) +190m 10:11 / km
spiked:10/13c

Day 2 Green at Colorado 5 Day. A cleaner race than Day 1, but slower. Still working on getting in optimum shape.

Orienteering race 1:14:49 [4] *** 6.5 km (11:31 / km) +175m 10:09 / km

Day 1 Green of the Colorado 5 Day. Messed up on the last control when I mistook another control for it and lost some time.

Orienteering 37:14 [3] *** 2.8 km (13:18 / km) +40m 12:25 / km

Progressive course as part of the Zero to Orange course. Done in the morning before the A-meet.

Orienteering 30:14 [1] * 2.0 km (15:07 / km) +40m 13:45 / km

Went out on White after my regular course. This was part of the Zero to Orange thing. We were supposed to do either White or Yellow to practice our patterns. I just walked the whole thing, but did try to put real concentration into the pattern thing.

Orienteering (Score-O) 51:52 [3] *** 4.35 km (11:55 / km) +105m 10:38 / km

Spent all day in the classroom as an Assistant Instructor for Bob Turbyfill's Zero to Orange class. The day ended with a score-O training run. It was pretty simple, but I still managed to trip on my way to the finish and plant my hand into a cactus. Ouch!
