Orienteering race (bush) 1:39:01 [4] *** 14.03 km (7:03 / km)
spiked:20/23c shoes: Mudclaw 333

Long distance state championships at Frazzle Rock. Set off at a conservative pace as I was a bit worried about the distance and forecasted heat. Saw Fletch, who had started 2 minutes in front of me, at #3, but like him I couldn't find the control for a while. It turns out that Komy, who had started 2 minutes behind me, passed me there. Slightly overshot #6, but fine for the rest through the open country.

I was a bit worried about the two laps of the hill (#13-#21), because at Easter last year I couldn't make much sense of that part of the map at all. That was one reason I took the long way around to #13, but I needn't have worried, because the map made sense to me all the way this time. Caught Komy at #13. We both spent a bit of time looking for #15 and after that I lost him. Surprisingly, I was still feeling strong at the end of the course; a big difference with the day before.

Came fifth, 9 minutes behind tRicky and 3 minutes in front of Juffy. Happy with that. One of my best bush runs ever, maybe because there wasn't a whole lot of actual bush, but still. Still plenty of gains to be made though through smoother nav and simply being fitter.

Middle distance state championships at Frazzle Rock. With the entire top four from last year missing I thought there was a small chance to get into third place behind fenry and Fletch, but it would require a nearly flawless run, and my run was far from flawless. Reasonably ok through the first six controls, but slow, and took a while to spot #5. Went too far right to #7 and ended up at a different water course. Found a flag there; luckily I checked the number. Bit slow to #9 as I went up into a few rocks when I should have stayed lower. Lost lots of time at #10 as I couldn't work out which rocks were which and was looking for the control a bit too low. Wrong exit direction from #11 made me go a long way around to #12. Overshot #13. Got pretty hot towards the end.

Altogether, lots of mistakes, but thinking back about how I ran at this area during Easter 2011 I realise I have made a lot of progress in my map reading since then. Sixth place, 1:30 behind tRicky, but I didn't have Juffy around to show me where the controls were. In fact, I didn't see any other M21s out there.

Running (pram run) 43:49 [4] 8.37 km (5:14 / km)
shoes: Brooks Beast 12

Pram run through Atwell north. More traffic, bumps and obstacles than on my runs through Atwell south, so may stick to the southern part in future. 35 minutes to the playground and 8 minutes back via the duckies.

Running 28:38 [4] 6.14 km (4:40 / km)
shoes: Brooks Beast 12

Didn't take time for lunch, let alone the lunchtime run I was planning, but by 4 pm my code was running happily so I went for a run after all. Crisscross through the backstreets of Bentley, stringing together as many small parks as I could find.
