smt - disappointment edition.
Pretty exhausted this morn, I was still buzzing a 2am this morning post race so it was a pretty sluggish session for me.
Fortunately, autumn colours and temps and an entertaining Trix back in fine form made up for it.

10k Trek or Treat.
A night trail race looked like fun - I also appreciated their promotion, so it also doubled as getting a bit of look at how different races are run.
Get and and *everyone* is in costume. First emotion is jealousy, cause everything is more fun in costume. Second is worry, I really didn't want to line up at the start line as the only douche in running gear surrounded by superheroes and zombies - luckily it ended up being about 50/50.

Start was pretty fast and furious, but soon settled down after about 500m once we hit the first downhill section.
The guy who was leading yelled out, 'Who's done a race with stairs before?', I think I lit up the trail with my massive eye roll. Anyway, it was just the two of us after that and we chatted for a bit about dontgetlost - he's doing the Raid, the third in the team with Sean Bechtel and Claudia Johnson. I'm a little worried for him, he called the first hill 'a gutbuster' - it was a Nancy...

Anyway, he pulled away after that and I was all by my lonesome for the rest of the race. Pretty fun, it was a hard packed, wide trail interspersed with short sections of bitumen so on a bright night you could have got away with no head lamp. I probably went out a little hard and Trav'd a little towards the end, but still finished comfortably in second. The final sections were pretty fun, with zombies and axe murderers skulking in the woods and a final section through a graveyard.
Would happily do this race again. Good atmosphere and a fun, well marked course. Need to plan costume.

Running - Grass warm up/down 25:00 [1] 4.0 km (6:15 / km)

Got there super early, so lots of warming up. Probably too much, cause I felt a little fatigued towards the end.

Pre ARK shuffle round the trails. Pretty slick in places from the rainmageddon, but not a whole lot of debris.
Thursday ARK continues to be a lot of fun, not just due to my Angels ability to control the weather. Most of the kids are new to the program this year and have picked up the fundamentals of map reading amazingly quickly. General enthusiasm is pretty cool as well.

TNT. 46464 with 2 recovery. Then 2x1'.
Felt pretty flat tonight, but I was informed I say I feel bad every night at the start of the session - so I shut up about it after that.
Some smartarses (Dr. PBV and friends) had clearly been sandbagging on the hard part of the session and tried to show off their sprinting skills in the one minuters. Fortunately neither of them have much endurance past 30 seconds and I was able to put them in their place.
Come on blizzard season and golf course loops again.

Raid training with the boys. Only the basics, but these guys have got it dialed. Got pretty dark towards the end, but we made it.

Running - Grass warm up/down 30:00 [1] 5.0 km (6:00 / km)
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212

Pre running the course warm up and short cool down with Mr. Trav.

Running - Grass race 14:35 [5] 4.0 km (3:39 / km) +49m 3:26 / km
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212

Another fun cross race. Course seemed to be all flat grass with once steep hill in the middle - but inspection of the GPS track shows a long subtle downhill first half followed by a similar subtle climb in the final half.
After feeling lousy and bloated on the warm up, everything came together after about 5 minutes and spent the rest of the race reeling in guys as they fell off the main pack.
About 13th or 14th overall and 5th dontgetlost dude. Pretty cool to see so many of our jerseys at the front of the pack.
