Orienteering warm up/down 35:00 [1]

15 before on the warm up map, 20 after running the fun part of course 9. Their course was better than ours.
10 AM

Orienteering race 35:00 [3] 4.5 km (7:47 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Oroc 280

After yesterdays trouble, the plan for today was to run in a lower gear and get everything right.
Didn't quite happen, 3x1-1:30 min errors mainly due to concentration lapses. Would prefer that didn't happen, but preferable than the debacle I thought may happen.
Apart from that, was steady, read features well and never felt fatigued, even on the late hills.
Not sure of placing - it was tight in the 33+ range, but was about 4.5 mins down on Patrick (The original one).
Amazing forest and map - just a joy to run in from start to finish.

Orienteering 35:00 [2] 2.5 km (14:00 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Oroc 280

So very nice to be back in Whitehorse.
On the training map with Nate and Troy.
Absolute schemozzle. The forest was tough and I was always going in the direction that was not straight. Very worrying for the next couple of days.

Orienteering 1:00:00 [2] 9.55 km (6:17 / km) +109m 5:57 / km
shoes: Inov8 Oroc 280

Flagging sites for a permanent course at Christie. Map was a bit out of date, general assessment was: Light Green=nice pine forest, white=bug hell.
Got lost on the trail network more than once. I will be tough to beat at Whitehorse.
Count 2/3rds.

Running - Trail 49:04 intensity: (7:12 @1) + (23:11 @2) + (8:57 @3) + (8:21 @4) + (1:23 @5) 7.8 km (6:17 / km) +217m 5:31 / km
ahr:127 max:177 shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 190s

TNT at new super awesome location and an almost equally super awesome crew to match (menzies was there too, bringing the awesome down a notch)
Led by coach Turbo, 8 x as yet unnamed hill. (2/3 of the way for pissweekers)
Felt great, smashed out the last one.

8 PM

Orienteering 25:00 [2] 2.5 km (10:00 / km)
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 190s

More checkpointing at Canterbury.
Checked out the 'mud' part of last months mud run - no obvious lasting effects, so all good. Also checked out the section of the sprint race that someone had a whinge about.
Lucky I did, cause I found a control! Sportident and all sitting in the forest. #88, I think the 1st control from the second loop of the Long course at GLOF. What a poorly managed club.

Orienteering 30:00 [2] 3.29 km (9:08 / km) +92m 8:01 / km
shoes: Inov8 Oroc 280

Easy round Canterbury with a disobedient Vizsla. Some very nice bits of forest and some nicer hills.
Got dominated by the bugs. Count 50%

ahr:139 max:192 shoes: NB MT101s 2011.2

TNT. ShinKilla loops.
Only did 4 cause I'm having a pissweek. Was hot, so happy I got to jog the last 3.
6 PM

Core & Strength 5:00 [1]

Abridged turbocore. Important meetings to get to.

ahr:131 max:178 shoes: NB MT101s 2011.2

With Duane, Robin and a cheery, bouncy Trix. Took them on a few new trails north of the Trail Centre. Nav training begins when I return from EU.
Very tired and sore, especially in the achilles and lower leg. Heat wasn't as oppressive as I thought.

Gula Stigen.
Original plan was to try and lap as close to 3 mins as possible to create a fairly soft record, to entice other attempts.
Didn't happen, with Wil on my tail knocking off a 5k attempt and hammer on the course with a camera - the early laps were way too fast.
Realised at 5.5k I'd miscounted the laps and was only at 5k and thus half way was the hardest part of the run, psychologically. The next couple of ks were super tough and just about survival. The only thing that stopped me from quitting was the merciless AP bashing I would have received had I gave up.

Thankfully Wil and Mike ran with me over the last couple and stopped me slipping too far over the 3 min lap barrier.
Totally cooked at the end, felt like we picked the hottest part of the day to get it done. The clearing just after the Excalibur climb needs to be given some sort of name that aptly describes it's powerful radiation effects.
Great weekend, looking forward to COCs now.
