Orienteering 1:06:53 intensity: (19:20 @1) + (16:48 @2) + (29:38 @3) + (1:07 @4) 6.74 km (9:55 / km) +40m 9:38 / km

Starting off the year the right way, hanging control at Rocky Ridge for dontgetlost.ca training.
This is the first time here and after all the talk, it wasn't anywhere near as bad as I imagined (too much hype? from this lot? never.... *cough*K2*cough*).
Woods were gloriously open and I found it quite runnable, in fact, compared to other limestone terrain I've experienced it was all quite benign.
Granted I was going at 'control hanging and working out the rock mapping style' pace - I imagine it would get tougher at racing speed.
Bring on Headcam test #2 - see if I have to eat my words!

Note

At the start of the year, I set some goals. Looking back now, they are decidedly weak - either easy to achieve in the case of the PBs or unquantifiable.
2011 will have tougher targets, possibly too tough - but I'm going by the 'better to aim high and miss' philosophy. Stay tuned.

In other news, the head cam video has had over 350 views. Damn. I apologise - Being John Malkovich it aint.
2 PM

Running 46:18 intensity: (34 @1) + (1:11 @2) + (30:47 @3) + (13:46 @4) 9.35 km (4:57 / km) +160m 4:34 / km
ahr:144 max:171 shoes: 2010.2 Triumphs

Last one of the year. Have been feeling like I've been coming down with something for the last couple of days, so decided to head out for a short, speedy run to try and force whatever is percolating to show it's hand.
Trails were pretty awful today, a lot of ice and slush and the section of trail along the edge of the forest was super slick and muddy - no traction whatsoever.
GHO spies were in the forest again, this time in the form of GHOSLO and Mama GHO - told me stories of eons ago (when Mike was young) how they used to ski these trails.
Got quite a good pace going for the most of it, but am paying for it now - have felt better....

Running 29:50 intensity: (3:38 @1) + (9:31 @2) + (13:38 @3) + (3:03 @4) 3.98 km (7:30 / km) +60m 6:58 / km
ahr:128 max:163 shoes: Montrails

Work, work, work.
I tell ya, GHO got lucky when they employed someone willing to spend time in the office over the holiday period. Of course, when your office is the Dundas Valley, it makes going to work pretty easy...
Running round the initial AR365 checkpoints, checking GPS coordinates and taking photos. Initially thought the area I've used for the first month was a little small, but I think a 4k loop is about right to begin with.
4 PM

Running 50:01 intensity: (4 @1) + (5:52 @2) + (28:26 @3) + (15:39 @4) 9.8 km (5:06 / km)
ahr:140 max:162 shoes: 2010.2 Triumphs

A bit of Cootes trails and a bit more Dang loops with turbo and G.
Way too overdressed - was down to shorts and T by the end!
Icespikes worked well in the thawed, muddy sections.
5 PM

Core & Strength 15:00 [1]

All turbo led core sessions are quality. Abs of steel are just around the corner.

Running 49:34 intensity: (32 @1) + (2:09 @2) + (36:34 @3) + (10:19 @4) 9.42 km (5:16 / km) +100m 5:00 / km
ahr:139 max:165 shoes: 2010.2 Triumphs

Easy paced run round Cootes trails and a fair chunk on the ice too. Wanted to try and run to the North Shore, but lots of skaters round and I didn't want to have to do the walk of shame if the northern side wasn't frozen!
Got punished by some deceptively slippery trails, gonna have to stay vigilant on the buggers as conditions seem to change daily round here!

Note

For those who've wondered what it's like to orienteer like me (and lets face it, who hasn't?), get a geezer at this

http://attackpoint.org/sessiondata.jsp?sessionid=1...

and

http://dontgetlost.ca/dgl_doma/show_map.php?user=P...

For those of you who don't want to spend 20 minutes listening to me breathing heavily and clomping like an elephant (and let's face it, who does), highlights are:

2:35-3:35: Leg #3 - Running the line like a bandit, unaided by a compass.
6:10-7:25: Leg #6 - Typical Hamilton ravine crossing. Wussed out instead of going straight.
8:20-9:20: Leg #8 - Fall #1. Typical type of fall for me.
11:25-12:25: Leg #10 - Fall #2. Less typical, foot caught on a vine or old fence.
14:00-17:00: Leg #12 - Small mistake. Went for the wrong, 'distinctive tree'. Veg mapping is very good, GPS track picked up all clearings and video matches.
11 AM

Orienteering 19:52 intensity: (1 @1) + (9 @2) + (34 @3) + (12:54 @4) + (6:14 @5) 3.0 km (6:37 / km) +70m 5:56 / km
ahr:161 max:174 shoes: Icebugs

Head camera testing at Ancaster Creek.
2 stacks, one ravine crossing and a mistake in light green - will make some good viewing.
Felt pretty sluggish, especially after the 2nd fall.

Running 22:52 intensity: (9:57 @1) + (5:03 @2) + (5:42 @3) + (2:10 @4) 2.23 km (10:15 / km)
ahr:110 max:161 shoes: Icebugs

Warm up with AdventureGirl!, trying to escape her whooping cough.

Running 45:00 [2] 6.0 km (7:30 / km) +150m 6:40 / km
shoes: 2010.2 Triumphs

Recovery run from the hottage with a blissfully unaware Trix and a stubbornly persistent hammer, proving there's no such thing as too much knee pain.
New loop for me, involving a bit of a clamber up Tiffany Falls.
The Valley has frozen up noticeably over the couple of days I've been staying here - Canterbury and Sherman Falls are now more ice than water.

Running race 1:02:35 intensity: (7 @1) + (8 @2) + (21 @3) + (17:47 @4) + (44:12 @5) 10.0 mi (6:16 / mi) +100m 6:04 / mi
ahr:169 max:182 shoes: Adidas Adizero

Boxing Day 10 Miler
Had mixed reports on this race and have to admit, the idea of racing 16kms didn't fill me with joy when I woke up.
Still, with a 12pm start time there's no good reason not too. All went according to plan, went out at tempo pace for the first half then speed up and pick people off for the rest of it. Was a little faster than planned to begin with, but felt great for the whole race, strong on the hills and the finish. Best part was the continual cheer squads along the route through Westdale - thanks guys!
Great race to conclude my prestigious road running career!
