Running race 30 [1] 0.1 km (5:00 / km)

Balmers Beer Bong Commando World Champion.
Won 50Sfr bar tab for my efforts.
Competition was a bunch of weak Yanks and Sebba, how could I lose?

Not Training hills 1 [2] +1500m

Same walk as 2 days ago with 'Sweaty' Dunne and 'Chocolate Vacuum' Barr.
View from Sharks Fin is best in the Alps in my minimal experience. You should all be here.

Not Training 1 [3] +1500m
shoes: Adidas Kanadias

Gimmelwald -> Waterfall you can walk under -> Rodstuckhutte -> Schilthorn -> Back down the otherside.

Awesome hike with Sebba, Ilks and additional random mountain enthusiast. Awesome walk, did this peak two years ago, but the route we did today was heaps better - some really amazing ridge walking towards the end and a very necessary coffee in the Hutte.
Another good day. Maybe photos soon.

Not Training 1 [2] +1300m

Gimmelwald -> Tanzboden -> Hotel Obersteinberg -> Lager -> Trachsellauenen -> Gimmelwald.

Awesome. Perfect day, not a hint of cloud and a nice breeze. Will probably put photos on later whilst awaiting the arrival Mr Dunne and Ms Barr.

Running 1:00:00 [3] 9.3 km (6:27 / km) +450m 5:12 / km
shoes: Adidas Kanadias

Gimmelwald->Chilchbalm and return.

The least steep suggested hike from the hostel. Unfortunately involves a 100m drop right at the start, which becomes an 8 minute climb at the end!
Basically follows a river from glacial melt up a valley until it opens out to an alpine meadow and natural amphitheatre surrounded by cliffs and waterfalls.
Not a bad day.

Orienteering race 1:19:17 [4] 6.7 km (11:50 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Roclites v2.0

OOCup, Day 5.
Best day of the karst races, but still nothing special. Lost 90 off the bat on the first short leg, too fast, no contact. Pretty good through the middle part of the race, 6-7 was the longest section of sustained running of the entire week and was finally feeling strong in the terrain - running through rock fields and still able to read the map. Unfortunately fell into old habits at 16 and 17, not checking compass enough and going off in wrong directions - wasted about 10 minutes total on those 2 legs.
Placed 41st/61 (and about 15 mps and DNFs), best placing of the karst races.

Note

44th/51 overall (and a whopping 24 mp or DNF over the 5 days). Bit disapppointed, have felt like I've been steadily improving through Norway and France so being a muppet for 3/5/5 days is tough to swallow.
Really though, this terrain probably takes more than 4 days to master and good compass technique is vital - running out of a featureless bowl in the right direction is impossible to do without the compass and it's probably one of my weakest skills.
Anyway, really looking forward to Swiss O Week, hoping for some good physical races. Running 21L instead of E, glad I made that choice now - competition should still be good, I'll hopefully just be a little further up the results board!
