Running 1:04:00 [3] 11.0 km (5:49 / km) +460m 4:49 / km
ahr:151 max:172 shoes: Adidas Kanadias

No chance in heck I was going to get up early enough to drive out to Bagdad for cross country, the mountain was my target for today.
Got out there at 3, I was a bit worried about the light fading as the cloud had come over, but decided to do Chicken Payback, I think it my new favourite mountain loop.
Felt quite good, the effects of a pretty easy week I'd say. The last vestiges of the cold have almost gone, still coughing up bit of gunk here and there.
Realise when I got back, all my local loops have all the climb in the first half - I should really mix it up so I'm working a bit harder at the end of a run every now and then instead of cruising for 20 mins downhill.

Note
(rest day)

Last day at work for a while, so of course I wasted the arvo faffing around sorting out files and projects and other important stuff - like making use of the photocopier while I have it and stealing supplies.
No time to run. Arse is sore again anyway - a little concerning.

Running 55:00 [3] 9.5 km (5:47 / km) +200m 5:14 / km
ahr:139 max:168 shoes: Kayanos

A lonely old Tour tonight with just myself and Lukey making an effort (most excuses were legitimate though). Shame really, all the other ingredients were there for a cracker run. Lukas set an interesting course through New Town, Derwent Park and Goodwood with lots of alleys and twisting streets.
Real highlight was running though 'New Town Hospital' (as google maps calls it), which confirms my suspicions of being a quality sprint area - quite large too, if you include Ogilvie it's about 2 square km.
Could have supplied the cops with a address for a good drug bust - you could smell the place from aaaaages away! Any guesses which suburb we was in then?
Also funny was as soon as we crossed the latte line/flannel curtain we suddenly pass a house with a massive domestic going on inside!

Orienteering 35:00 [2] 3.0 km (11:40 / km) +150m 9:20 / km
ahr:130 max:163 shoes: Adidas Kanadias

Night training at Ridgeway. Pretty hard this week, had a couple of issues in the circle - the only way to fix that is to go out and in again, relocation ain't gonna happen in the dark.
I really dig this night running, especially on such a clear night. Happy I nabbed a night leg at Jukola!

Orienteering 33:00 [2] 3.3 km (10:00 / km) +150m 8:09 / km
ahr:135 max:162 shoes: Adidas Kanadias

Putting out tapes. Cracker time of day, sun had just set and the mountain and foothills had gone all shades of blue and misty. Very cool.

Got the rejection notice for the NY marathon today. Looks like I'll have to find some time to run an automatic qualifying time for next years race (which fits better anyway since I should be on that continent).
83:00 for a HM seems doable - according to the V02 max data I can do under 80, but I don't trust the extrapolation. Will take any suggestions for a flat, fast course.

Note

Have been taking it easy, the chest thing just won't quit and I'm quite concerned about it elevating to the dreaded man flu. Will do something tomorrow.

Orienteering race (ACT NOL Long) 30:00 [4] 4.0 km (7:30 / km)

Fail.
I really wanted to have a good crack at this, but it wasn't meant to be. Had started walking the hills on the way to the first control and when I somehow did this:
Long #1
and then did something similar at #3. I decided to pull the pin here as I could see the course blowing out to 2.5+ hours if I'd already made 5 minutes of errors in the first 4 controls.
That first control was an odd one, as I was going back up the hill to it I saw Sebba doing exactly the same thing. The rock must have been well camouflaged somehow when coming from the east - you can even see how I slowed down in the circle!
