Running race (Cardiff 5k time trial) 18:49 [5] 5.0 km (3:46 / km) +10m 3:44 / km
ahr:171 max:182 weight:80.3kg shoes: Saucony Triumphs

Thought I should do at least one of these while I'm here. Problem with these races is, though they're free they start at 9am, which is just too early for me on a weekend - no matter what I do, I just can't get up to full throttle.
Anyway, it was a nice morning and it's a nicer loop that the Wimbledon Common one. As usual, I get stuck with some wheezy bloke who just has to run right behind me.
Splits: 3:38, 3:47, 3:47, 3:52, 3:45.

Running 40:00 [2] 6.6 km (6:04 / km) +170m 5:22 / km
ahr:149 shoes: Mizuno Trail Bargain

As I had a car for the weekend (again), did the tourist thing and headed down to Dartmoor National Park. As it worked so well for the Brecon run, I found a good loop to do from a website. Looking at the ordinance map, I couldn't see all the tracks I was meant to follow, but thought they just must be new or unmapped ones - the internet is never wrong, right?
So, after climbing the first Tor (Dartmoor speak for hill) I decended into a trackless, shrubby, boggy, pickly, rocky hillside.
Got pissed off so cut the loop short and headed for the next Tor where I knew there was a track from looking at Google Earth.
Enjoyed the rest of it - the rocky hilltops were pretty cool, kind of reminded me of Hanging Rock, Miranda wasn't anywhere nearby though.

Running 42:00 [3] 8.5 km (4:56 / km) +60m 4:46 / km
ahr:143 max:153 shoes: Saucony Triumphs

Easy run round the streets. Up along the start of the Cardiff 10K road, over the bridge towards SuperTescos and back down Taff Trail. Got scared along the Taff cause it was dark and thought I could hear footsteps near me, but it turned out it was just the leaves I was kicking about.

Running intervals 48:00 [4] 8.0 km (6:00 / km)
ahr:150 max:183 shoes: Saucony Triumphs

Brutal track session, not only for the program but for the weather - bout 2 degrees, heavy sideways rain and wind.
Tonights line up was:
2km at 10k pace (7:24)
3 x 600m with 2 mins recovery (1:57, 2:01, 2:04)
3 x 300m with 90s recovery (54, 58, 55)
3 x 200m with 45s recovery (34, 35, 34)
500m flat out (1:41)
Tough, massive lactic on the last 200 of the 600s and just died in the arse in the last half of the 500. Still, after defrosting, showering and eating it feels good.

Note

Have just seen that OOCup have released dates and are have sandwiched themselves perfectly between JWOC in the Dolomites and Swiss O Week, and the centres near Postonja where I wanted to go in 2006 but didn't have the time. Next summer is shaping up nicely.

Running 56:00 [3] 11.6 km (4:50 / km) +100m 4:38 / km
ahr:145 max:163 shoes: Brooks Glycerin

Usual easy night run. Even colder - sub zero with the windchill. Thermal, tights, gloves, beanie and I slip in some mud and soak myself through. Felt like Robert Patrick when he was doused in liquid nitrogen in Terminator 2.

Running 1:05:00 [3] 14.0 km (4:39 / km) +150m 4:24 / km
ahr:148 max:174 shoes: Saucony Triumphs

40 minute easy run sandwiched between 25 minutes threshold (that I was meant to do on Saturday). Felt good, struggled getting my HR high enough in the middle bit though - only when I went up the hill after Tescos that it got going.
Really cold, got stuck for about 10 minutes waiting for the bridge to close and got pretty chilly.
They were filming an episode of Torchwood right outside my place when I started to run - they all stared at me as I ran past. The TV business must not be very interesting.

Note
(rest day)

Crap balls weekend. Went up to Blackpool for some reason. Planned run on the boulevard on Sat and up in Snowdonia on the way home.
Weather was bloody awful on Saturday - localised flooding awful so I pulled the pin on that.
Got lost on Sunday finding where I planned to run so by the time I got there I only had an hour of daylight left, and my loop was going to be 2 hours plus. And there was cloud everywhere. And my GPS went flat. A dark run in unfamiliar terrain wasn't going to happen. Then it took me 5 hours to get home. Cranky now.
