Orienteering race (Queen Mary Sprint) 24:55 [5] 3.9 km (6:23 / km)

Excellent sprint race out in the wilds of the East.
Got caught out by a very devious course a number of times.
Ended up being dead ended or on the way to being dead ended on #4, #6, #13 and also missed a crucial turn off on #8 and #20 which would have added quite a relatively large amount of distance to the course - did 6km total.
On the plus side, I felt I was running pretty fast - although the instantaneous pace calculation on the Garmin is pretty dodgy when you're moving quickly and changing direction so much amongst tall buildings, there were sigificant section where I was doing speeds in the low 3 min/ks which I'm pretty pleased with - now I just need to learn to read the map at that speed!
Killer area Ollie, good find, I'd declare the map and event in a week experiment a success. Next please!
I know I shouldn't compare, but I can't help it - UK beats Oz on sprint races hands down. If I look at the last 3 sprints I did at home to the last 3 here - tonight, Shrewsbury and Uni of Surrey at JK vs Sandy Cove (Dubbo Dash), Nuriootpa (the one where half the group had to DSQ themselves) and Easter Prologue in SA. No contest.
Having said that, at the moment I'm Jonesing for a good long race in fast spur/gully with 3km long trackless legs or some St. Helens tin mining/granite.
Running warm up/down 20:00 [2]
About 5 seconds of warm up with Seb and a longer leisurely cool down on my own exploring sections of the map we didn't cover during the race.
Glad we didn't go south of the main road, it was scarey down there.
In other news, planning for next years summer of O continues well. Midniteogalloppen have released their dates which conflict with JWOC which is a shame cause they were both on my to do list.
Also been looking at Easter on the continent as I'm told JK won't be as impressive as this year. There were a few multi day events this year, so if they're an annual thing I'll have to choose between Czech, Sweden or France. Sandstone Easter in CZ is on the top of my list, if the flights aren't exorbitant it'll be the cheapest option of the three.
If you haven't guessed, I'm pretty bored with work at the moment.
