Running 1:13:30 [3] 14.1 km (5:13 / km)
ahr:147 max:170 shoes: Saucony Triumphs

Zig zagging run round Wimbledon Common. Felt like a massive turd from start to finish, not sure if lack of sleep, food or anything else was the issue - but it wasn't fun. Mud everywhere after last weekends artic snowstorm - couldn't get up some of the hills. Bring on summer.

Running 32:30 [3] 7.2 km (4:31 / km)
ahr:144 max:155 shoes: Saucony Triumphs

Quick street run at night to see how the shin was feeling after Mondays fall. Didn't even notice it after about 20 seconds. So much nicer running without having to worry about a pesky map slowing you down
Getting pumped about daylight savings coming this weekend and the deadline for the big project at work conveniently being Monday which will free up my evenings from now on.

Note

Decided to enter the sprint and middle champs next weekend. Originally wasn't going to, but the JK sprint was so awesome I'm gonna take every opportunity to run a major event while I'm here.
I've also decided to not worry about the result of any race from now on while I'm here and just enjoy the experience.
Also saw the Easter 3 Day sprint in Dubbo and was in awe of the contrast between the two courses/maps. I know who got the better deal. (You could argue the weather balanced it out)

Orienteering race (JK Relay) 53:00 [3] 6.3 km (8:25 / km) +190m 7:19 / km
shoes: Inov8 Roclites

Relays at Eridge Park.
4th leg runner on the SLOW B team. I didn't know when our 3rd leg runner set off cause I was sheltering in the club tent for most of the morning - ended up standing in the holding pen in the blizzard for 20 mins cause I was paranoid I'd miss the tag.
My heart just wasn't in it from the beginning - wanted to do a decent time just too frustrated by some dodgy mapping, really slippery elephant tracks everywhere and the fact that about 10 teams had already finished before while I waited to start.
All mistakes due to laziness
Too far to the left at #2 and climbed an unnecessary hill - poor veg mapping didn't help.
Dragged left into a split control by other runners at #5
Ran too far up the gully on the way to #8 pussying around trying to find a nice place to cross it.
Cbf to #9 and just ran in the direction of it. Spent a couple of minutes just outside the circle trying to work out where I was. Again the vagaries of the map in this area wasn't great.
Cbf to #10 and just ran in the direction of it. Spiked it!
Decided to get my shit together in the paddock legs on the way back and redeem myself with some decent splits and proceeded to fall in the mud and bang my shin on a submerged rock or branch. Hobbled along for the next couple of minutes before the pain left. Proceeded then to misread the fences around #11 and had to traverse some brambles, got stuck in waist deep mud and scale the 8ft deer fence, and drop my map as I climbed over to have it fall on the original side. Started to feel like it wasn't my day at that point.
Saw someone on my course ahead of me at a split control which was the only thing that kept me going to make sure I finished ahead of them.
Finally at the download I was informed I'd done the wrong course (our teams were changed heaps in the morning due to injuries). At the moment the results say no one ran our 4th leg - after all I went through they'd better fix that one up.

Orienteering race (JK Classic) 2:20:50 [3] 22.8 km (6:11 / km) +630m 5:26 / km
ahr:159 max:173 shoes: Inov8 Roclites

Classic Race at Ashdown Forest (home of Winnie the Pooh)
The 16.7km monster I'd been dreading. After the previous 2 days though I was looking forward to doing this one, just to say I'd done it.
True to form, the snow starts up just as I'm about to start and only lets up in the last 20 minutes.
Only mistake of significance for a course this long was at #12 where I should have crossed a creek earlier and headed up the hill to a gully on the other side.
Biggest mistake was being far too conservative at the beginning, being too concerned about dying in the arse at the end. Considering I wasn't tired that night, or sore the next day confirms it. I figure I could easily shave 30 secs-1min/km off my pace, which is a big chunk of time for 17k! We'll see how I go at the next big one (next month).
Enjoyed the area, especially the section to the NE. Just nice, easy running - generally well mapped bar a few point features and easy to pick everything. Obviously it was nowhere near as complex as the day before, but it was nice to feel like a competent orienteer again.
