Orienteering race (Littlechild Creek Sprint) 25:37 [5] 4.0 km (6:24 / km) +100m 5:42 / km

I decided to run this a little harder than I normally would to try and stomp out my habit of over-hesitation. It worked pretty well, even after a 30sec of so mistake at #7, I was in front up to 10 until I made another little mistake, then twisted my ankle badly enough to walk for a bit and was slower for the rest of the course. Looking at the GPS track I was pretty far off the line on some of the legs which didn’t make my run look that impressive. I’d say 3.6km was probably too long for a sprint course in technical granite, but it was pretty fun so I’ll forgive the setters.
Pretty pissed about my ankles, I’ve twisted them at the last couple of events and they’ve gotten worse each time – normally I can run it off, but today the pain was too much. I’m taping them at from now on, pain in the arse though.

Orienteering warm up/down (Control Collection) 30:00 [1]

It was a WROC event so I nicely volunteered to collect controls. The fact it was a sprint and the furthest control was 500m away had nothing to do with it.

Running (Winter Tour) 55:30 [4] 10.2 km (5:26 / km)

Cornelian Bay/Lutana tour. Lukeys first - good loop, lots of twists and turns. Probably one of the closest finishes on a leg we've had on a long downhill. Taking the day off yesterday was a good idea, felt really fresh.
Best part was Ryan continually almost winning a leg, then losing it in the last minute. Especially good when he Nicko'd up one not reading the map and stopping too early allowing Louis to take the prize.
Points for tonight:

Patrick 568
Louis 432
Jess 431 (so close)
Lukey 19
Ryan -7

Note
(rest day)

Legs a still sore so taking a day.
Also have to win every Tour leg tomorrow to make up for all the points I missed last week!

Running (Montagu Bay) 43:00 [3] 8.7 km (4:57 / km)
ahr:141 max:157

Usual night run around Rosny, made it a little further this time and came back along the road behind Rosny Hill, but it wasn't really that much further as I thought. Did some 1 min surges with 1 min recovery in the middle, got prettty close to 4 min/km / 5 min/km on most of them with no Garminy help. Weird.
Legs are officially dead, thinking about getting the bike out a bit more often.

Running intervals (Howrah 1kms) 13:53 [5] 4.0 km (3:28 / km)
ahr:166 max:181

4x1km intervals along Howrah. Felt weird after work and almost pulled out but talked myself into it at the end. Started to feel the hills from Sunday on the 3rd and almost pulled out again and was starting to make excuses to put into this log. Decided I was being a sook and made up for it on the last one.
Its officially cold now, will have to pull the beanie, gloves and tights out of retirement. That spots allowable for that attire cause its not lit so no one will see me in tights there!
Splits are: 3:27 (160/169), 3:27 (165/177), 3:32 (168/177), 3:23 (168/181)

Running warm up/down 29:26 [1] 3.78 km (7:47 / km)

All the usual between intervals and wamp up etc. Pretty slack.

Orienteering race (Knocklofty) 40:59 [4] *** 7.14 km (5:44 / km) +300m 4:45 / km
ahr:166 max:179

Local event at Knocklofty. Nice day for a run, good easy moderate course, felt like a tool running through the streets in full O-gear - the one day I didn't bring shorts.
Caught Nigel at #7 and he refused to let me get away so I ran the last part as little harder than I normally would have - had to walk up the last hill though.
Interesting that Ryan and I basically did the same course, and his GPS measured about 400m less. I'm guessing he ran through an out of bounds area - he does that a lot without realising it!

Update: Comparing the GPS track with Ryans, apart from where he got time on me on the longer 2 legs along tracks/road, I'm losing most of my time right at the start/end of legs in the circle. I've known for a while thats the weakest part of orienteering for me, just didn't realise it even extended to easy urban maps!

Running warm up/down (Cool down) 15:00 [2]

Cool down after the run (warming up's for losers). Ran out to the 2nd last control. Laughed at Ryan going the woosey track option. Laughed at Fagg who started 2 minutes behind be and was still doing the course (considering it was a running race i thought he'd have me by the 3rd control).
Enjoyed the sweeping views of Hobart (as suggested in the event information)
