Running - Trail 45:00 [3]

Weeks worth of running. Started off with 5 mins on Monday and got a whole whopping 20 mins today.
At the point now where the heel is still sore, but manageable to run with a normal form. Sprint is still a bit iffy.
Still, my results will likely be mediocre this week, but am still gonna try and give all I've got. Main focus is the ARXers however.

Cycling 2:25:00 [2] 32.0 km (13.2 kph) +383m

More biking. Up to the Hottage, then 1:30 with the smters, Domestique then home. Glad to be riding instead of running.
Foot seems to have stalled in recovery. Basically fine, but generic dull ache when walking.
Mustard.

Cycling 53:25 [3] 15.32 km (17.2 kph) +182m

No Rockstar for me when Joe woke up sick at 1am and then spent most of the day inside.
Had to get out, so just a quick one up to Iroquois Heights and back. Nice cruise.

Thursday Jul 24, 2014 #

Note

Biked round Mac shadowing Christian and Noah as they did some Sprintervals.
Once a few basics were reinforced I was really happy how well they did, particularly keeping good flow through the circle - a must for Sprints.
Foot has improved steadily, can now walk with minimal pain and no limp - hopefully running comes tomorrow.

Cycling 1:10:00 [3]

More biking will wilsmith and Hammer. Still have no idea where we went.
Quads not happy for the first 20 mins.
10 AM

Running - Trail 25:00 [3] 5.0 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: X-Talon 190s

5 laps of Gula Stigen. First and last trying to go fast and failing at both.
Landed badly on my heel on the drop off on the final lap and am still paying for it. Lucky something didn't break.
Can now move around easily, but still hurts to put full weight on. Whistler should be OK, this weekend is iffy.

9 AM

Cycling 1:05:00 [3]

Biking on Nobel with Hammer and many, many Smiths.
Felt like a pretty quick pace for what I thought would be an easy ride, then it turns out that some of us were being purposefully quick. Fun mucky ride.
10 AM

Paddle 1:10:00 [2]

Rockstar training out to Wall Island and back. Extensive blueberry recovery session in the middle.

Running - Trail 25:00 [3] 4.5 km (5:33 / km)
shoes: X-Talon 212

Warrior Dash. Lap 1.
Competitive wave. When Ryan Atkins is at the start line, you know your only hope is 2nd.
Enjoyed watching the horde try to keep with Ryan in the first 1km, then slowly picking them off as they crashed and burned.
Ended 5th which is a little disappointing compared to winning 2 years ago, 2nd would have been likely if the course actually was 3.5 miles as advertised (4th and 3rd were in sight), but you don't expect accuracy at an OCR. Actually felt pretty strong on all the hills.
10 AM

Running - Trail 1:10:00 [1] 4.5 km (15:33 / km)
shoes: X-Talon 212

Not as fast 2nd lap with a few newbies.
Fun to see the race from this perspective, but damn, some people should consider attempt to run this distance before entering an event like this.
It's great that OCR is getting people to do physical activity when they normally wouldn't, but it's a real worry when you see people gasping for breath/needing to break after 1km before the hills have even started.

5 PM

Running - Trail 39:41 [4] 6.82 km (5:49 / km) +70m 5:32 / km
shoes: X-Talon 190s

TNT: 8xRavine Rd repeats. Didn't go quite the full 8 due to being distracted by Anne, Luka and a DOTA2 cosplay photo session going on - but pretty much the whole pizza got eaten tonight.
Feeling really happy with continual TNT improvement from week to week. Still a little too late to put in a good showing at Whistler, but at least it won't be disgraceful.
#IonlygotoTNTonThursdaysGirl! wasn't there

Wednesday Jul 16, 2014 #

4 PM

Running - Trail 23:59 [3] 3.55 km (6:46 / km) +1m 6:45 / km
shoes: X-Talon 212

Put the flags out in the course order to get a bit of practice. Tried to run fast but legs declined to respond, so slow it was.
Beaut evening. Happy to see the Xers working hard for once.

Running - Trail 41:10 [3] 7.29 km (5:39 / km) +39m 5:30 / km
shoes: X-Talon 190s

TNT. 1,2,3,4,3,2,1 west side loops.
Felt like a lot better session from previous weeks. Achilles needs work before and after, but nothing major - just gotta give it the attention it deserves.

Pretty fun smt with Trav, KMac, Nev and special guest Bender. #Turdo was there too, but had to leave early due to family responsibilities.
Still hate whalebacks.

ahr:131 max:176 shoes: MT 1010 2014

TNT with a number of rare appearances. Even Hammer showed up. #Turdo nearly died, which was reflected in his bowling performance later in the evening.
Felt decent, which is a step up from recent weeks.

Putting out flags for the ARXers training in Ancaster Creek. Really like this area - has so many cool looking contour features. Dodged most of the nettles.

TNT. Channeled my inner #Turdo and slacked until the final rep. Worth.
Struggling to find a top gear for most of the session. Pretty tired. Can't believe I used to get up this time every day in my previous life.

With Hammer on the Christie trails. Nice to turn the legs over, calf still a bit sore.

MOM Run #1. On the vehicle track around the quarry lake. But, it was nice and short. 5th back, but 2nd out of transition due to not having to deal with stupid bike shoes.

Cycling 58:56 intensity: (3:02 @3) + (54:32 @4) + (1:22 @5) 17.46 km (17.8 kph) +235m
ahr:161 max:174

MOM bike. So this was my first ever 'real' MTB race. (I don't really count the Chico 24 hr a few years back as I wasn't really trying to race then).
Went pretty good, stayed on for the most of it. Generally let people past when I could.
What I found was that my general speed on the trail and even in the technical rocky/downhill stuff isn't that far off, it's the general bike handling that I'm bad at. I'd be with a group of people easy, then as soon as we'd hit a few quick turns, I'd instantly drop off the pace. I guess that's just an experience thing.
Got a really bad calf cramp on the first lap which I had to get off for and stretch out.
10th at the transition, but 9th out :) Stupid chumps in bike shoes.

Running - Trail 41:43 intensity: (12:37 @4) + (29:06 @5) 8.72 km (4:47 / km) +135m 4:26 / km
ahr:173 max:182 shoes: MT 1010 2014

MOM run #2. Half on exposed vehicle trail (not fun) and half on the Kelso BT trail (fun).
Clearly I've forgotten how to race. Passed a few people early, then settled in behind one of the other duo racers. After about 5 mins of enjoying the trails and the views, one of the tri runners bolts past and I realise, I could be running a lot faster!
Then another guy catches up and I realised, crap, I could be running a lot faster! So I stick with this guy for a while and slowly pull away, though he catches back up and passes me in the finish :/
That final 2k around the lake again was not fun.
Really happy to be doing a high intensity race again, had that good exhausted/tired feeling all day. I didn't realise how much I missed it.

Some BTing with menzies up at Limehouse. Since nice stuff and a little overgrown, nettle-y stuff as well.
Finished through the Limehouse Conservation Area, checked out all the cool stuff there

Running - Trail 26:58 [3] 4.46 km (6:03 / km) +75m 5:35 / km
shoes: X-Talon 212

Quick section of BT on my way to Ancaster from the afternoon in Pelham/St. Catharines.
Pretty typical section, some beautiful single trail through open woods, some tip toeing through escarpment rubble, some overgrown boggy bug sanctuary and a waterfall.

ahr:117 max:143 shoes: X-Talon 212

Somewhat cruisy run with #turdo and Lizard, went out just after the downpour, so damp but a whole lot cooler.
Borer's Falls loop - really overgrown below the escarpment. Shin all better.

Cycling 2:00:52 [3] 24.85 km (12.3 kph) +399m

Super good MTB on Canadia Day (that's how we Australians pronounce it). Warren Park, Weirs Lane, Christie Trails and back on the Spencer Adventure. Got some sick air of the rollercoaster on Ebb and Flow.
Highlight was #turbo trying to use his phone while covered in plastic with commentary from Super. Come back any time.
A little broken afterwards, think it was salt loss from the heat.
