Running - Trail 30:00 [1]
shoes: 2013 Orocs

And then putting out flags for tonights ARX.
Still felt pretty bad, but better after again. I can handle flat wide trails, with relative ease, but any gradient or soft snow sucks my will to live.

Apart from still being Siberia, it was pretty awesome out - blue skies and fairly compact snow made life bearable.

Running - Trail 30:00 [1]
shoes: 2013 Orocs

Late for TNT, didn't seem to be anyone there which was fine by me as I hadn't planned on traditional TNT. Plodded round collecting ARX flags from 2 weeks ago (only lost one!).
It was not enjoyable and felt like I was wearing a weighted vest, but I think it did some good moving some of the plague out of my lungs.

Note
(sick)

Struggling a bit with motivation at the moment, so thinking about some races in the May/June period.
Toying with the idea ditvhing the relay and doing the Sulpher 50 Mile. I know there are probably better, more scenic ultras to do - but I like the fact this is close and I'd likely get some support.
2nd half of the year has NAOCs, NYC Marathon and WTM - so I'm sorted there.

Running - Snowshoe 45:00 [3]
shoes: 2013 Orocs

TNT: Snowshoe Edition
Super fun, but unfortunately I struggled on the hills (AG! even beat me up most of them), looks like the smokers cough is settling in for a while :/

Running - Trail 45:00 [2]
shoes: MT 1010 2014

Just the braids section of smt with Hammer, Trav and #turdo.
Thought I needed something like this to clear the lungs out and ended up making it worse. 2 days on the couch where it seems all CTV shows is curling and figure skating as penance.

Note
(sick)

And sick again.
No TNT for me tonight - lucky I've got an almost full box of hippie sick person tea. Thanks Dr. CDump.

4 PM

Orienteering 33:14 [3] 3.1 km (10:43 / km) +308m 7:10 / km
shoes: 2013 Orocs

Hanging new flags for ARX. Easier side of the gold course due to a lot more tracking, though still - hard work.

Tuesday Feb 11, 2014 #

5 PM

Running - Trail 32:42 [3] 3.7 km (8:50 / km) +76m 8:01 / km
shoes: 2013 Orocs

Fake TNT. Just me and #turdo. My legs weren't up to ints and neither was the conditions - so we warmed up, did up stairs/down lowry for the fun then collected last weeks ARX flags.
Seemed harder than last week.

1 PM

Orienteering 16:37 [4] 3.1 km (5:22 / km) +62m 4:53 / km
shoes: 2013 Orocs

Sprint Camp #8. Chase set up.
Smooth-ish run - though feel like I should have hardened up a little and taken straighter routes. Still, OK result.
The ice patch was adorable.
3 PM

Orienteering 17:20 [5] 3.69 km (4:42 / km) +90m 4:11 / km
shoes: MT 1010 2014

Sprint Camp #9: Chase.
This is almost becoming tradition, I start with a couple of dudes who are faster than be second behind - they catch up straight away and I stay with them due to a few clever routes from me, then I blow it on a late CP.
Still pretty fun course to finish off the weekend with.

10 AM

Running - Trail 14:48 [4] 2.6 km (5:42 / km) +27m 5:25 / km
shoes: MT 1010 2014

Sprint Camp #3 @ Mundy Park, timed race
A few hesitations and bananas here and there, but generally executed quite well. Won a couple of splits unexpectedly.
Lots of direction changes and switching from forest to trail to fields. Enjoyed the variety.
11 AM

Running - Trail 15:10 [3] 3.07 km (4:57 / km) +8m 4:53 / km
shoes: MT 1010 2014

Sprint Camp #4: Dogbones at Poirier
Really enjoyed this. Apart from Carol, I didn't speak to anyone who picked a shorter route - so pretty happy with that, 5 seconds planning before starting was well invested.
Had a good cruisy flow for this one and got the balance between planning ahead and staying on track about right.
2 PM

Orienteering 4:27 [5] 1.03 km (4:20 / km) +44m 3:34 / km
shoes: MT 1010 2014

Sprint Camp #5: 2 man relay at Blue Mountain (with Hammer)
First leg. No goals, no plans, just get it done.
Pretty straightforward area, just make sure you punch the right control. Amazing fun blasting it out with 50 other runners. Really like AZ's photo of the start:

Orienteering race 4:23 [5] 1.1 km (3:59 / km)
shoes: MT 1010 2014

Leg #2 of Relay.
Pretty much flawless, the only mistake was forgetting to start my watch. Got Hammer out with enough of a buffer to take out our rivals and finish 5th overall.
Hammer used O-Cup strategies to prevent us losing a number of places. Gold star.
3 PM

Running - Trail 32:40 [4] 4.2 km (7:47 / km) +87m 7:03 / km
shoes: MT 1010 2014

Sprint Camp #6: O-Tervals at Lougheed
Very cool area, lots of variety that kept getting better. Housing complex was a lot of fun.
5 PM

Orienteering 14:20 [5] 2.1 km (6:50 / km) +76m 5:47 / km
shoes: 2013 Orocs

Sprint Camp #7: Farsta @ Hume Park
Always a highlight. Got in the lead on my loop, but after the first hub it was like a game of 100 person pinball.
Quite a few hesitations and sub par routes on all the hillside/staircase CPs which I think added up, think I really just needed to man up on the descent legs and go straight instead of going the long way round. Still, mega fun.

Friday Feb 7, 2014 #

3 PM

Running - Trail 26:07 [2] 4.03 km (6:29 / km) +77m 5:55 / km
shoes: MT 1010 2014

Sprint Camp #1: Warm up around Lost Lagoon.
Just cruised, enjoyed the sun and firm ground. 0 degrees feels amazing when it was -20 when I left.
5 PM

Orienteering 14:00 [0] 2.4 km (5:50 / km) +32m 5:28 / km
shoes: MT 1010 2014

Sprint Camp #2: Timed race at Coal Harbour.
Oof, I'm rusty. Picked the right way to get to #5 and then promptly turned my brain off, pretty much errors every second control after that.
0 degrees is less warm in the shade.

Thursday Feb 6, 2014 #

3 PM

Running - Trail 19:34 [2] 2.91 km (6:43 / km) +78m 5:56 / km
shoes: 2013 Orocs

Drove up to Chedoke just in case someone showed up for TNT.
No one, but did the warm up with the idea of doing 1 set of 3 sisters. Didn't even get through little sister without having to walk, so pulled the plug to save the legs for the weekend.

Wednesday Feb 5, 2014 #

4 PM

Running - Trail 52:38 [2] 5.31 km (9:55 / km) +175m 8:30 / km
shoes: 2013 Orocs

Putting out ARX flags in the even deeper snow.
Brutal workout but an amazingly fun descent straight down the middle of Lowry (and was proud to see most of the ARXers taking the same route afterwards).
Legs starting to feel pretty whacked after these past couple of days. Perfect timing for the Sprint Camp.

Tuesday Feb 4, 2014 #

5 PM

Running - Trail 47:59 [4] 6.17 km (7:46 / km) +149m 6:56 / km
shoes: 2013 Orocs

Epic Figure 8s in the snow. Killer long climbs in the soft and sometimes deep snow. Took a faceplant to keep AG! happy and let Trav have the feeling of being in the lead.

Monday Feb 3, 2014 #

6 PM

Running - Trail 53:55 [2] 6.61 km (8:09 / km) +379m 6:20 / km

Night run in the Deeve with #turdo and Dr. ChewingPoo.
Actually pretty awesome conditions, nicely packed trails except for K2 which was ice crust post holing the whole way up. Super slow going.

Sunday Feb 2, 2014 #

Running - Trail 1:00:00 [3]
shoes: Inov8 Roclite 285

Epic snowshoe party in Spencer Gorge.
Sore arches after - these are the shoes I wore at WTM that gave me PF.
Into the bin for them.

Saturday Feb 1, 2014 #

Running - Trail 1:45:00 [3]
shoes: 2013 Orocs

smt with Trav and Hammer, injury prone edition. Knee a little sore right now after a fall. Good times in the snow though.

Gents, this is the interview I was talking about during the run. Worth watching all of it.
