Running 2:06:46 intensity: (1:49:22 @0) + (17:24 @1) 15.12 mi (8:23 / mi) +119m 8:11 / mi
ahr:63 max:124

Long and wet run. Despite my initial reluctance I felt great once I got going and really enjoyed the rain - it meant that I had most of the trails and parks to myself. Caught up on the Mayo & Kermode film review on the run.

I have seen some cracking films recently; The Theory of Everything, Foxcatcher, Immitation Game and Whiplash. I was underwhelmed by Foxcatcher - but I have been thinking about it lots since I saw it. Blown away by Whiplash; highly recommended.

Note

Went to see Exxpolis after Parkrun as part of the Summersalt festival. It is a luminarium which is a massive inflatable building. Great fun to visit. It turns out it was made in Nottingham.

Running 16:58 [5] 3.1 mi (5:28 / mi) +20m 5:22 / mi

Parkrun. Started off steady and worked my way through the field (over 350 attendees). Hovered around the top 5 in kms 1.5 - 2.5 and then found myself in the lead at about 3k.

As ever the section between 2.5 - 4k seemed seemed the toughest but I was running consistent splits the whole way. Need to go about 30 seconds faster to get my Albert Park pb so still some (a lot) of work to do.

Running warm up/down 25:16 [1] 2.88 mi (8:46 / mi) +4m 8:44 / mi

One lap warmdown with Claire.

Early morning jaunt with Kez. Running late so the first mile and a bit were faster than my body wanted.

Feeling a bit flat this morning, so it was a struggle to get going. Plans were either a longish run to work, or some mile reps. Decided in the end to do some hill work. 2 x longer hills (3 mins) then some shorter stuff by the Pipebridge / Boathouse.

Felt much better for having tackled the session.

lunchtime progression run. Tried to heed Murray's advice but did not execute the session perfectly. The plan was to do 30 minutes of effort - going 15 sec per mile faster, starting at 6.30s and finishing at 5.15s. It was all going swimmingly until the last segment - I just couldn't push on as I wanted. HR was getting higher too. Fun though. I will crack it next week. Maybe.

Easy lollop home from the AusOpen tennis along the Yarra. The pathway was quite busy with cyclists and I was passed by one with about 50 Australian flags attached to his bike. As it was Australia day I gave him a smile and thumbs up as he whizzed past. His Pom detector was obviously high as he totally blanked me.
