12 PM

Running 2:00:00 [2] 12.63 mi (9:30 / mi)

To break up the journey on the way to Shane and Heather's we stopped off in Belstone to nip out onto Dartmoor. Overcooked it slightly (was aiming for about 90 minutes) but had planned a course on Clare's OMM map and was being a bit stubborn about it. Glorious afternoon with stunning views.
5 PM

Running 26:30 [2] 3.0 mi (8:50 / mi)

Couldn't turn down the opportunity for an easy run with Shane and then a dip in the sea after.

9 AM

Running 22:00 [2] 2.5 mi (8:48 / mi)

Early morning legs loosener up Rivelin.
2 PM

Running warm up/down 25:00 [2] 2.5 mi (10:00 / mi)

Warm up and down with the DP massive. Feeling a bit wired on the warm up - my triple espresso doing the trick!

Running race 58:47 [5] 8.15 mi (7:13 / mi)

Weasdale - English champs race. Had a bit of banter start as I wanted to get clear lines through the underpass and then the bog fest fields. Felt strong at the start but went backwards at the start of the hill proper. Although I was feeling pretty strong I couldn't push on. Got overtaken by Rhys and Ben half way up and they were comfortably ahead at the first summit. Started to make some progress in turning around the deficit on the decent and picked off Ben (who was suffering) and then Rhys. By this stage I had sight of Little Rob but could not pull him back.

Great team performance from DP - now just need to work out what it means for the last counter at Kielder.

Note
(rest day)

Rest day. Lots of mooching around. Saw "The Guard" in the evening - top film.

Thursday Aug 16, 2012 #

Running 1:12:00 intensity: (1:00:00 @2) + (12:00 @4) 9.5 mi (7:35 / mi)

Run from work to Hallamshire; then 3 "library" reps in the park (short, medium and long) and then home. Good to catch up with the HH posse and AC and Jase in particular. Feeling pretty good on the reps.

Running 1:46:00 [2] 11.0 mi (9:38 / mi)

From home, out to redmires, then along to porter valley and in to University. Legs not as tired / tight as I feared and achilles was ok. Going to take it easy now till Saturday's race.

Note

Listened to some great podcasts on my long run. I recommend them all (but the interviewer is annoying on the Syed and Macey interviews):

Matthew Syed (author of Bounce - all about talent v training)
http://www.maximisepotential.co.uk/matthew-syed-au...

Dean Macey (Decathlete and essex boy)
www.maximisepotential.co.uk/dean-macey-internation...

Dave Brailsford - recorded about 8 months ago so doubly fascinating to listen to his predictions for the olympics and TDF- he would not be drawn on predicting medals because it was a non-controllable. His greatest predictor for success was the extent to which individuals were able to consistently adhere to their (massive) training schedule: http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/fivelive/victo...
3 PM

Running 4:00:00 [2] 20.5 mi (11:42 / mi)

Took the afternoon off work to get a long run in. In prep for the Dragon's Back race which I impetuously entered last week (Shane has assured me it will be fun).

Out from Edale across Kinder to Hagg Farm, Fairholmes (the long way round), Back Tor, Agden, Damflask, home. Absolutely beautiful out today and I enjoyed soaking up the rays and the views.

Thirsty work (drank 2 liters) and both achilles were achey by the end (something that has been re occuring during the last couple of weeks). In my head I was going to take this easy enough that it would feel easy but truth be told it was a bit of (an enjoyable) slog. This was, at best, half a Dragon's back day (gulp).

7 AM

Running 40:00 [2] 5.5 mi (7:16 / mi)

Easy run up Rivelin. Lovely morning; legs a bit grumpy.
5 PM

Running 40:00 intensity: (20:00 @2) + (10:00 @3) + (10:00 @4) 6.5 mi (6:09 / mi)

Run home from work. Feeling tired and was procrastinating before heading out. Actually felt much brighter was I had left the office, and even decided to pick up the pace for the second half of the run (I headed out to Coppice Track and then down the valley). Even mustered the energy for some strides (5 x 100m ish).
