Orienteering 1:36:36 [4] 6.85 mi (14:06 / mi) +646m 10:54 / mi

Day 1. Pleased that my steady approach was proving dividends early on. Knew that I would be running much slower than the better guys but I was just happy to find flags where I was expecting them to be. All went tits up however at one control where I lost 13 minutes - it was a crag in amongst lots of other crags and I simply couldn't find it. Must have got within 15 meters twice during 2 sweeps of the hillside but ended up having to run 30 m up a hill to relocate (where I thought I was) and to come in on a precise bearing. Frustrating. Also I earnt myself a nice scratch across the face for my efforts. Fun but annoying at the same time.
10 AM

Running 20:00 [2] 2.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

Warm up and down.

Running 1:03:00 [3] 9.0 mi (7:00 / mi)

Run with Andy around Damflask. Very misty and wet. Probably on my worst 10 list of early runs around the flask.

Running 24:00 [2] 3.0 mi (8:00 / mi)

Run to work taking it very easy.
7 PM

Running race 15:17 [5] 5.0 km (3:03 / km)

Sale Sizzler - 15:17. Felt good tonight and there was a packed field. First 500m was round the track and it was rammed. Picked it up on the next 500m. Was in 2nd place (Ben Fish was about 10 meters ahead) from 1.5k to 3.5k with Mike Sawrey breathing down my neck. He came past, with Andy Davies (from Welsh fell running fame), at 3.5k. I could not go with them and they took 11 seconds out of me. Felt quite strong at the finish so was annoyed that I could not hold the pace in the last k. Need to man up / do some more speed work. Andy C smashed his pb (15:39) - having been introduced to the delights of Pro Plus. Good flat course - worth visiting next year. Results here: hhttp://www.race-results.co.uk/results/2011/salsiz4...

Running warm up/down 45:00 [2] 6.0 mi (7:30 / mi)

6 PM

Running 35:00 [2] 5.0 mi (7:00 / mi)

I planned to get out at lunchtime, but was hungry/lazy/busy so put it off until the evening. Then I really couldn't face a long run so just did 5.

7 AM

Running 32:00 [2] 4.0 mi (8:00 / mi)

Run to work, the longish way via the back of the college.
5 PM

Running 56:00 [2] 6.5 mi (8:37 / mi)

Run to track with Rich and Dave and then home with Andy, Dave A and Ben. No flaming cars of note.
6 PM

Running race 4:35 [5] 1.0 mi (4:35 / mi)

A couple of friends at work were keen to do the Magic mile challenge (from marathon talk) and I got roped in. Thought that around 4:30 was a good aim and was satisfied with 4:35. Went off waaay too fast (opening lap 63) and faded towards the end in sea of lactate. Lungs burning afterwards but certainly felt alive.

Running intervals 15:00 [5] 2.5 mi (6:00 / mi)

About 5 minutes after the mile rep I dipped into the Hallamshire boys' session. Did 1 x 1600m with Dave (in 4:48) and then 2 x 800m (in about 2.23). Felt ok considering the mile rep in my legs. DaveA was running very very un trackslug like.
