Note

Rest day, thought about going for a jog, thought about cooking really nice brunch...hadn't thought about packing for Finland and consequently spent all morning doing this instead.

Orienteering 30:00 [3]

Running a line and then a control pick on Summerhouse Knot. Knot been there before and it was really nice, but a little steep. Really got into the orienteering by the end and flowing quite nicely.

Running warm up/down 20:00 [1]

Really hot before and after High Dam race. Felt that I drank enough to cope with heat and not feeling too bad afterwards.

Orienteering race 1:10:00 [4]

Race around High Dam. Gorgeous bit of Lake District forest with touches of scandanavia thrown in. Very scrappy to start and then hit a purple patch in the middle, where running strongly but in control, lost my flow again towards the end.

Running 25:00 [3]

Cycle to Candyman's to lend him my bike and then a run to gym and back home. When turned up at Gareth´s there was a bobby at his back door so knew there was something wrong. Real shame they have been broken into - not a very welcoming statement about Sheffield. Started to regret leaving my bike with Gareth on way to gym......

Orienteering 10:00 [2]

did some map memory training on Walkley map. Legs screwed following gym session and last nights intervals....

S+C 1:00 [3]

Running 15:00 [1]

Warm up and down for evening session. Nails really excited about spotting a naked women....she was covered up by the time I saw her ( and there was a lot to cover).

Orienteering 15:00 [3]

Steady orienteering - legs really tired and heart not totally in it. Really nice evening and course planned by Bilbo on Scout´s Scar.

Running 45:00 [2]

Run to Hallamshire then on to Stockarth park. Mike moaned whole way there about not wanting to do the session - if I had known what was coming I would have been moaning too.

Running intervals 30:00 [5]

This really hurt - a 1k rep up the hill to the park, which left my lungs burning and legs in lactate. Then ran lap intervals in pairs (one running each time). The lap was about 1:10, took 30 seconds straight uphill, then 20 seconds slightly downhill and 20 seconds straight downhill. It really screwed my legs.....oh and then we did 4 x 100m sprints...killer.

Running 25:00 [2]

Run into gym - did some map memory sections on Walkley map that Clare had planned for me on way in.

S+C 1:00:00 [3]

Hour steady in the gym. It was just me and the coach in today so got a good one on one session. We talked about plans for next few weeks and did a tough circuit, including medicine ball stuff which was tough but different and fun.

Running 20:00 [2]

Run home with some fast sprint o training in between.

Orienteering intervals 15:00 [4]

2 x sprint intervals with a 1 minute gap in between. Felt good and strong but recognise that I need to sharpen up.

Running 45:00 [2]

Run to and back from training at Notre Dame school.

Orienteering 15:00 [4]

3 x 5.00 sprints around Note Dame school. I might be biased but I thought it was great - when we turned up there were people running everywhere - looking confused, but ultimately having fun.

Courses were great too - shame Neil kept pipping me.

Note to self - work on punch and run technique.

Note

Enjoying my first day of unemployment (well 2nd technically).

Felt tired this morning after a big week of training / travelling / racing, and bit disappointed with orienteering (well 2 days of it). Went to see Pete at Hallam Uni and talked about a plan for next few weeks - came out of it much more positive and focussed (which was the idea!).

Running 20:00 [1]

Warming up / down. Another cracking day in Ireland. Had to rush off after race to make our flight home, which we did with time to spare (well enough that we comfortably had time for an ice cream stop!).

Orienteering race 1:20:00 [4]

3rd day - supposed to be chasing start but unfortunately our flight home meant had to start 1 hour early. Orienteering was really scruffy to start with and went down hill from then on. Felt really tired, both mentally and physically. Area was great, but had problems with the map in areas..
