Orienteering race 28:47 [5]
shoes: adidas swoops

Hungaria Cup, Open 3, WINNER!!!!!!! Covered myself in glory. Much like the England cricket team. Surely after the microsprint humiliation there was no way back. Oli was grinning like Ricky Ponting, I was dejected like Andrew Strauss. The press were calling for dramatic changes. This would have to be a huge turn around. Confidence was oozing from the Johnson camp. But I pulled out an Stuart Broad style performance and he crumbled like the Australian middle order. Speakey also got a thumping, as did the New Zealanders.

Orienteering 2:29 [4]
shoes: New Balance 1024 - 2nd pair

Microsprint qualifier. Hairy moment at number 1 losing about 20secs, but showed some class after that and comfortably qualified in 2nd in my heat.

Microsprint final. If Oli hadn't been running, it would've been ok, something I did for fun which went ok, not great, but ok, and I probably wouldn't dwell on it for very long. Unfortunately he spawned a 4 second victory over me (largely due to a poor finish back from the fountain on my part) and it's going to be hard to bounce back from this. Came 5th. Oh well, at least I qualified for something this week.

Various running around with OJ and Candyman talking up my chances in the microsprints. Didn't quite walk the walk.

Event: WOC 2009

Orienteering 22:00 [3]
shoes: adidas swoops

Some tricky low vis forest with lots of gullies and indistinctive distinctive trees. Very tricky and hard to move at a decent pace. Thursday will be lots of fun!

Orienteering 10:00 [5]

2x downhill short courses on the sprint model, the second was head-to-head with GG. Really benefited from the extra pressure and proper controls in the forest. Felt quite good and on-the-ball, which is what this sprint's gonna be all about. Had a dip in Neil's river afterwards.

Round and about the park with GG and Gareth.

Orienteering 10:00 [3]
shoes: adidas swoops

Bit of a recce of the sprint model so it isn't a complete shock when I launch into it tomorrow. Recceing a model race is a bit odd admittedly, but at least I found out important things like that the map's at 1:4000. I feel a bit like I'm cramming for an exam when I've not been to lectures all year. Fortunately the race is gonna be pretty nuts and weird so that will hopefully be the right tactic.

To and from the model event, with Gareth and Oli on the way there. The "small stream" that Neil "inadvertantly" and "complete accidentally" "stepped across" "without even noticing" at the Euromeeting turned out to be a massive fricken fast flowing river with huge walls down each side, as well as being clearly mapped as being so.
