Orienteering race (JK Middle) 32:25 [5] 6.5 km (4:59 / km)
shoes: Jalas X20

2nd place :o) Well up for this one so kept reminding myself of that everytime I was up to my waste in mud. Didn't get going that well (again) - not seen splits yet but a bit wobbly over the first couple. Clean through to 10 where I caught BJ. Ran with him for a bit with small wobbles at 12 and 13. Then ran really clean and kept pushing as best I could. Came the right side of the pack this time but over 1min down on GG which I couldn't have done much about. Felt like I got the most out of myself though for the first time in a while. I have Barrable to thank for suggesting I take a map bag - well worth it! Proves my point about waterproof maps - hopefully events like this will make people take notice in the future... Nothing in it on the results, so it's all going to come down to tomorrow - exciting stuff.

Orienteering race (JK Sprint) 16:11 [5] 4.0 km (4:03 / km)
shoes: adidas swoops

7th place, ran ok but a couple of wobbles and one costly route choice to the 13th control so probs lost about 30secs all in (too much). Ran the 2nd half much better where I had some grip so cursing my shoes choice. Meh, not a bad run, but nothing to write home about.

Easy run on Blaise, getting in some mud practice, which turned out to be worthwhile...

Running intervals 20:00 [5] 5.5 km (3:38 / km)
shoes: Nike Pegasus

5x 3mins (1min recovery) round Blaise and Stoke Bishop. Tried to get some "leg speed" going so stuck to roads. Pushed pretty hard.

Running 22:00 [2] 5.0 km (4:24 / km)
shoes: Nike Pegasus

Before and after the reps bit of the run.

Running 1:04:00 [3] 14.0 km (4:34 / km)
shoes: Jalas X20

Made good use of the light evenings and did some more looping around Blaise/Kings Weston/Shirehampton Park. Anticipated the mud this time so wore my new o-shoes which did the trick. Felt good once I'd warmed up although my left hip/lower back is a bit achey.

Gentle run in the mud around Blaise. A few aches and pains but not feeling too tired.

Orienteering race (Trossachs WRE) 1:33:37 [4] 12.0 km (7:48 / km)
shoes: Jalas X20

6th place, within touching distance of 3rd. Grrr. Another "satisfying", "good considering", "pleasing", "encouraging" run. All very nice but not quite there. But still, I am pleased with it, especially with the last half hour where I was winning a few splits and feeling stronger and more comfortable in the terrain. A couple of years ago that terrain would have completely spanked me, so I'm on the right track. Feeling fresh at the finish, which could indicate I didn't attack it enough, but I reckon I did attack as much as I could and it was more a case of lacking the running technique for this type of terrain. I'd like another go as I think I generated a lot of learning as I went. Technically almost there, but 2 sizable mistakes: 1min on #3 where I didn't climb enough, and 1.30mins on #19 which was actually 2 mistakes in one - one leaving #18 the wrong way and almost making a MASSIVE parallel error (but correcting just in time) and the other being too low in the circle. Tricky control. Made good use of the road on #22 and #28 which I don't think lost any time. Just got to make it count now on the areas that, in theory, should suit me better.

Running warm up/down 10:00 [2] 1.5 km (6:40 / km)
shoes: Jalas X20

To be honest, 10mins is probably an exaggeration.
