Checked another route off that was on the "to do" list - Jupiter Traverse and down the Thorington with Travis. Not much snow and a little wind since our last visit to the pass sevral days ago so we weren't expecting great skiing. Nice weather and stable conditions though so a nice walk in the alpine and an interesting ski mountaineering objective seemed like a good idea. 3:15 to Sapphire Col at a steady pace. Snow quality was preserved in sheltered north aspects though our line looked to have a little more wind effect (plus some old tracks). Jupiter requires a bootpack up and over the first peak - pretty simple until the next high point where there were a couple climbing moves then a steep 15m snow slope that we rapelled down. A downclimb would be possible but consequence of a slip could be big so safer to use the rope. Great weather and enjoyed some time on the summit with minimal wind. The ski down the Thorington was variable - not as steep as I expected (though the initial bulge would be disconcerting if you were the first one down). Traversed left under the glacier and exited near the triangle moraine. Lower section was quite tracked but still skiable to the trail. Wouldn't say the turns were great today but nothing too difficult or heinous. Fast conditions for the ski out... softening just enough.
