5 PM

run warm up/down 20:00 [2] 3.5 km (5:43 / km)
shoes: x-talon 212

Standard WU, run thrus, CD. Legs felt a little sore from yesterday, but not as tight as I'd feared. Side and ribs a bit sore from throwing the javelin too much yesterday. AH the preils of PE teaching.
6 PM

run race (Golf Course 5km TT) 17:32 [5] 5.0 km (3:30 / km)
shoes: x-talon 212

After printing off the handicaps, I left them at work, but it was no big deal, since it was just tRicky, Shanel, Andre and myself. Andre went for a 22:30, shane off his 21:20 from last time, tRicky set a target of 18 minutes and I went for 17:30 as I thought that was the optimistic end of what i might be capable of.

Felt like I started quite strongly, but didn't feel strong up the hill. Was hard to tell whether the firmness of the sand or the darkness had more of an effect on the run.

Gradually closed on tRicky throughout until his bowels gave up just after I passed him 2/3 of the way up Durston. I worked hard back down the Boulevard, but felt like my legs weren't ticking over too well by then. Got Shane about half way down, having sighted him up Durston. Never saw Andre at all.

Andre: 21:44
Shane: 21:32
tRicky: 18:16 (plus pit stop)
me: 17:32

Pretty happy. Definitely take that at this stage of things. S'pose that means the endurance is lacking more than the leg speed.

run 1:07:47 intensity: (9 @1) + (5:43 @2) + (59:53 @3) + (2:02 @4) 14.72 km (4:36 / km) +88m 4:28 / km
ahr:149 max:173 shoes: Salamon XT Wings

It was a run. Felt alright. Hip flexors tightened up a bit around 10km, so tried to relax the stride a bit.

Slight heel niggle, particularly left, but didn't develop into anything.

Almost long enough to be called a long run :)

6 AM

Windtrainer 1:00:00 intensity: (30:00 @2) + (30:00 @4)
shoes: Avanti Blade

Still not a 'real' ride, but at least I spent a bit of time on the bike.

Spent a while cranking the legs up to full speed, then did a 10 minute effort, followed by 4 x (5:2)

Felt OK at the time. Will see how I feel jogging this arvo.
3 PM

run 31:30 [1] 6.0 km (5:15 / km)
shoes: Saucony Cortana

Gentle little jog. Got one heavy rain shower for our troubles. Hip flexors felt a little tight after the bike time this morning.

run warm up/down 12:00 [3] 2.0 km (6:00 / km)
shoes: x-talon 212

Actually did a proper warm-up for the first time this year. Have to start re-establishing good habits now. (Hopefully training regularly will become one of them too)
10 AM

Orienteering race 13:43 [5] 2.4 km (5:43 / km)
shoes: x-talon 212

Started hard to see if I could get out of sight early, but missed seeing number 1 on the map, and as I tried to work that out, managed to run up a wrong staircase and had to go straight back down it and tuck in behind Sten. Ran into a dead-end together at number 4. By halfway round he seemed to be fading, so I pushed harder again, but was sloppy at 8 and had a poor finish to the leg to 9, followed by leaving 11 in the wrong direction, so I had worked hard without really gaining anything.

Need to tighten up the little bobbles before the serious race in August :( but hardly a surprise after a month away from high speed navigation.
11 AM

Orienteering 13:52 [5] 2.5 km (5:33 / km)
shoes: x-talon 212

Changed my mind on the way to #1, but only cost me an extra 5 metres or so. First caught sight of Sten at an in-and-out at #4 and worked hard to close the gap at around #9. Really stretched out through the last few and started to get away, but then took a wrong turn heading into #14 and had to backtrack, giving back a chunk of the advantage.

Ran flat out to the end to try to give Wil a little buffer, but dudn't think it would be quite enough, and that's the way if finished, with Shanel getting home in a sprint finish.

Much cleaner. Much happier.

Two top courses. Loved the sprint relay format and the pressure of close racing. Really glad to be heading back up the freeway in a car afterwards (instead of the bike I had contemplated). Top day all round.
