Trail Running race (Coastal Classic) 3:19:23 [4] 30.2 km (6:36 / km)
slept:6.0 shoes: Asics Gel Trail Sensor
One of the nicest runs ever. Beautiful scenery along (mostly) technical single trail or sand from Otford (north of Wollongong) through Sydney's Royal National Park to Bundeena (near Cronulla). Mix of coastal "jungle", beach, cliff tops and heather.
A lack of sleep the past couple of days didn't help today. Hot day too. Started fairly strong, pushing a train of about 8 along some single trail. Was hoping they would pull over, but in the end, probably slowed me down necessarily as after about 10km, I was starting to thing I couldn't make the distance.
The second 10km was spent slowing right down trying to "recover", but was tough work in the full sun. Drank about 1.5L every 10km or so.
Last 10km was just pushing through. Luckily the hardest part of the race was the first 10km.
Was hoping for under 3 hours, but given how tough the trails were, I am pretty happy with my time. I think I will be back.
