Orienteering 1:58:00 [4] 13.8 mi (8:33 / mi)

NAOC2010 "Long" 29/40 Winner 87
Proper orienteering. In a forest. For a long time.

Big route choice, pace judgement both at the leg and the whole course level, control picking, detailed nav, vague nav etc etc.

You can't beat it. Another superb course on a wonderful area, some training might have helped me make progress.

Only mild disappointment, we didn't go into the trickiest bit of the area.
In the days of classic elite planning we surely would have, but it seems the new "long" discipline has to be distinguished from "middle", and to do that you leave out the tricky bits or, perhaps in this case, reserve them for "middle" races. Still, having been unable to replace my Jukola-trashed
magnifier, I don't imagine I'd have been able to see the detailed bit.

... all this followed by a 2-hour walk up the mountain in Kimberley behind the hotel.

If only the bits which I have decided are now healed would stop hurting.
