Took the main rd option to 1. Chose the graded road into 2 and then had Duncan come into the control as i was leaving. Managed to lose sight of him as i went to 3. Had to slow down as i passed some nature walkers. got to 4 but pulled up short due to an unmapped track. Duncan caught me at this stage and then rode to 5 together. As we approached 5 Duncan chose the lower track. It didnt feel right so i turned back and recorrected. Punched 5 and was out of there well and truly before Duncan showed up. Held Duncan off until just after control 7.

Duncan started pulling away unitl 9 when he overshot the hidden control. Managed to close the gap and have in sight until near 10 when i dropped a used gel wrapper and turned around to collect it. Saw John at this point riding in opposite direction. Clean into 10 and then 11 with Duncan holding a small gap in front until control 12 when i chose to use a track from the south rather than the walking track from the east. Lost time here but was surprised to see Duncan walking towards the cars when i rode past. Seemed he had ripped his derailleur off using the north track option. I knew it would be heavily covered in fallen timber so i used the walking track to exit the control and go the slighter wider option.

Clean into control 13 but ithere seemed to be a multitude of controls out on the trail so had to make sure i punched the correct number. 14 was fine and clean into finish.

Nice to be out doing long courses again without feeling totally wrecked.

Legs were shot so it was a struggle fest just getting around the course. No real errors out there but that could be explained by the slower pace. In saying that my hr avg for the 2 events were very similar which is surprising for nearly 3hrs of effort.

Nice and cold ride this morning with the weather app reporting 4°c. Managed to tag onto a back of four riders that appeared on the path just north of the Baldivis BP. Handy tow into work as they headed all the way to Russell Rd before turning around. I thanked them graciously for the free tow :-)
