MTBO (warmup) 15:00 [3]
shoes: Scott Scale 29er

Warmup on Pile rd to sort out the lungs and legs. Also a ploy to avoid turning on controls but as it was it had to turn them on from 8 onwards for those that werent used on another course.

MTBO race (Pile Rd) 2:10:22 [4] 36.95 km (3:32 / km) +725m 3:13 / km
shoes: Scott Scale 29er

Good course with route choices that had to make me stop and choose which i enjoyed as i knew Ricky was out to test us today. Fun singletrack to 1 and pulled up at where the track should be only to see no track but saw something a bit early so turned around to check it but found nothing so rode back again and eventually found it closer to the powerlines than expected. Broke my zinger so then had to detach dibber from cord and carry it on my right hand.

Missed a track to 2 but as it turned out it was probably a good thing. Hit the feature at 2 to find no control (was starting to get concerned with the setter at this stage) and decided it to continue on and hope it was stolen only to find it further down the track. Presumed someone had moved it for a laugh. # was clean but then i decided to take the southern option to 4 which was longer but i believe quicker. Clean into 5 and 6. Not sure how Nancy beat us on all that leg??

7 was a cinch as i had ridden that leg as my route choice to 3. 8 lost a bit of time when i hit the out of bounds sign and the track that was inside the OOB area but after a hesitation i jumped onto the track as i then saw the fence on the correct side of the track. Overshot the control when i misread the map to the ground. Picked it up and headed to 9. At this stage i was looking at the next leg as it was the leg to determine the race. I was erring towards the southern option when i saw Duncan riding towards me. Knowing he had started 10mins in front i relooked at the map and figured he was taking the direct route which i decided was definately the way to go.

Got into 9 and couldnt find the indistinct tack but could see the control but rather than be disqualified i backtracked and went the eastern route. Left via the west track which i discovered was what i hadnt entered on originally.

Heading back towards 8 but on my way to 10 i saw Duncan riding to 9 so i knew then i had taken the lead and pushed harder. Punched 10 cleanly and then headed towards 11 the longer but quick way. Into 12 and and then 13 and clean into 14.

Fun times but thought my race was over when i jammed 2 30mm diameter branches into both sides of my rear wheel causing it to lock up. Had that horrible feeling i had lost my rear derailleur but was lucky to find it unharmed.

MTBO (roleystone mapping) 3:34:00 [3] 35.0 km (6:07 / km)
shoes: Specialized Epic Marathon Car

More mapping and some rain today. Found some extra tracks in the northern section to help provide some extra map to the middle distance map.

Copped a soaking with only 15min from finishing but luckily the maps stayed dried.
5 PM

running (East Perth) 49:00 [3] 9.6 km (5:06 / km)
shoes: Asics Kayano 17

Was meant to meet up with Tooms at east perthpower station for a run but the traffic heading west was trying to prevent me from meeting up so i got off at belmont ski area and ran across to meet Tooms.

We ran anti clock wise around the burswood/claisebrook loop. Bit of rain but a nice temperature for a run. Was good to catch up up for another impromptu run in Perth!!
