MTBO race (Langford Park) 1:54:35 [5] *** 36.78 km (3:07 / km)
ahr:175 max:190 spiked:11/15c shoes: Specialized Epic Marathon Car

Having screwed up the first control last year in the section north of the quarry this year i made it a goal not to this year. Achieved this by slowing down a bit and understanding the map better this time. Punched 1 cleanly and then hesitated trying to work out whether the east option would be quicker to 2. Decided that the bike was already pointing west so took that option and tried riding it hard to make up for lost time. Clean into three and then things started to unravel over int he black hole of corronation st.

Took the northern option into 4 and was doing well until i hit the gravel pit looking for a singletrack only to see a massive highway so ruled that out and saw a dodgy track in front. Started to ride it only to discovered a it ended and b it wasnt on the map. Backtracked and took the safer option around (+1.54min).

Exited four and took off conservatively as i was looking for an overgrown track that was slow to ride. Found it after staring at it thinking this cant be it as it was a clean wide track with no potholes. Got to 5 only to see the pink tape marking the control location. Thought it had been nicked and was about to leave when i saw it hanging on a tree. So far we had summer series controls with flags, control stands with flags but this was just a summer series control so side on was no chance of seeing it.

Took of a bit miffed and saw Tricky heading up the track and tried upping the pace only to fluff the next 2 controls. (+2.20min) from turning left at first junction after five instead of turning right even after seeing Shane come riding from the wrong direction. lost another 3 min when i hit a junction looking for an overgrown track. Was with Tricky at this stage and i decided to double back to have a nother look. seemed he found it quicker (+2.52min).

Clean through 7 and then lost more time when i took the wrong turn to get to nettleton rd. (+1.38min) Once back on Langford park side it was clean through to 13 when i turned in one track early and saw the control on the next track 5m away but did the right thing and rode back around (+.25min).

Clean until the end.

Good course but the controls should have been all the mtbo controls or at least all flagged so they were clearly visible.

Road Cycling (Red Rock) 1:18:00 [4] 45.5 km (1:43 / km)
ahr:161 max:184 shoes: Giant TCR Advanced

Picked up Ricky (whilst living in thornlie until today) nice and early this morning to drag him around with the red rock crew.

Five riders this morning until we caught the broad construction group at preston pt rd. Pace was solid today with the accelerations out of some corners being absolutely ridiculous at times. Struggled to stay on the wheel in front at times but didnt struggle as much as George who took several shortcut options!!

Managed to keep Ricky on my tail for the whole ride!! then he has the cheek to jump in font of me at the final lights and claim the win to the car.

didnt do any extra as i twinged my left calf during the morning's ride so took it easy this evening, avoiding any exercise that would irritate it.

Road Cycling (Floreat renegade) 1:29:00 [4] 46.0 km (1:56 / km)
shoes: Giant TCR Advanced

Solo ride this morning which was great as i wasnt sure how the body would handle the ride. Eased into it until challenger when i picked up 2 targets ahead and it pretty much took me until the end of challenger to overtake them. Got in front at WC hwy and then they sat on my wheel all the way down to freo before they went past at port beach for the win. At that point i noticed one of them was on a single speed (bastard).

Rode through mosman by myself and it wasnt until dalkeith that i started picking off riders again.

Absolutely spent by the end this monring.
