5 PM

running (Warmup) 9:00 [3] 1.5 km (6:00 / km)
rhr:44 slept:9.0 shoes: Asics Kayano 15

Felt tired all day and was looking for any excuse to bypass this session today especially when the shins were still very sore from the weekends effort.
6 PM

running race (5km TT) 23:47 [4] 5.0 km (4:45 / km)
ahr:173 max:183 shoes: Asics Kayano 15

Considering i was not enthusiastic about the run i took off at a gentle pace and slowly wound it up down to the roundabout. I felt slow and tired and sore and tired and....

Got up the first hill and convinced myself not to walk. Jason came past just before durston and i noticed the watch say 2.48km and 12.15 did the calcs and thought at a 24.30 would be good considering today and then i preceeded up durston with Tooms and Jason in view until my lungs and legs said no more 2\3 up the hill. walked for 20 sec and then picked it up again. Had Brian on my tail and tried to hold him off on the downhill but i couldnt stride out fully due to tiredness and shin protection procedures.

At the last little hill i looked at the watch and it read 23.20 so i kicked as hard as i could to a beat my last years pb and also hold off Fletch. i acheived both. Abosultely stoked with time considering the 3hr run sat, 4hrs sleep sat night and then being up from 3am through to 11pm sun with sun adv race and good vibes. Also stoked i'm not sick neither!!

Adventure Race race (Rat Race) 4:18:00 [4] 60.0 km (4:18 / km)
slept:4.0 shoes: Specialized Epic Marathon Car

Well after waking up at 2.30am after going to bed at 10.30pm the previous evening i waited until the alarm went off at 5.30am to get ready for the mornings race and GVF afterwards.

Got to the start line and gave ricky the instructions and kept the map myself. First activiy was a run through the malls looking at all the homeless people passed out in the doorways before getting a cryptic sheet to solve. Wil's keen eye helped us get out of the transition fairly quickly and then it was Bitumen time.

Event: Rat Race

5 PM

Adventure Race race (Rat Race Prologue) 2:50:00 [4] 18.5 km (9:11 / km)
shoes: Asics Kayano 15

Having 2 rogainers on the team was always going to put me under pressure with my lack of long distance running under my belt. After marking up the map Wil decided to plot the locations onto a blank A4 paper. At the time i was thinking What the? but i soon clicked to how useful that would be to group controls.

Once the race started we were off to find our first control, which we overshot and ended at our 4th control. A quick change of plans and we cleared out of the west end (after losing time on muntster lane which was shown differently on the map to how it is on the ground. Finally we get out of the cbd and end up in the perth cultural are looking for info on point zero seeing the start is at the PCC, anyhow we end up at the urban running CP which sucked big time.

Afterwards we finally we got back on track and headed to beatty park to watch ricky and wil go diving. Next was dorian gdns which 2 other teams plus us overshot. after bck tracking and some fence scaling ala urban running style we moved on. Hyde park caused us some grief as ricky ran around the sign missing the punch much to the amusement of the chirpy locals who were pointing out the control!!

A slow detour through the glory crowd exiting perth oval and we get to claisebrook to discover our worst nightmare, 2 blindfolded paddlers and a sighted observer. This did not work so well for us at all. a few teams overtook us at this point a i was extremely glad to get back to shore when we did.

A couple of other quirky challenges and we ended up in Forest chase belting out a classic angels track in front of hundreds of none!! (thank god)
I wont even mention the pump class and my ability to nail left and right all the time.

I have to acknowledge Ricky and his ability to push a 93kg body forward during the second half of the event. It certainly helped even though i was hurting from the lack or running recently

Paddling (Champion Lake) 30:54 [3] 4.6 km (6:43 / km)
shoes: Fenn XT Ski

Rocked up to champion lake around 5.15pm after some pointless meeting after work. Started paddling and noticed someone closing the gates (oh shit) did 1 lap and pulled up to discover no cars left on the island. Pulled up stumps as i needed to be able to get home so started ringing numbers that i could find on the net. Eventually the caretaker randomly drove past letting me out. Phew. was thinking i would have had to sleep in car seeing i had all the sportident gear just delivered to me. Gave up on doing anything more ie more paddling and swimming
