Another highlander come and gone. I thought I was in better shape, but everything--legs, feet, lungs, etc.--were hurting. Mostly walked the last half to third (after train run). Navigation, surprisingly, was the strong point. After running with a crowd through the first couple controls, went off on my own with good success (except #8, where I lost about 10 minutes). Several times, I noticed I gained an advantage on some people by taking better routes.
Shoes worked pretty well. No significant blisters, and with just plain inserts (gray ones) felt they weren't unacceptably sloppy.
