Orienteering race (race) 1:06:00 [5] ***** 6.1 km (10:49 / km) +285m 8:46 / km
shoes: Montrail Highlander

A better run than yesterday except for 2 controls out of more than 20. Lessons: Don't rely on just catching features--keep map/bearing correct. I thought it would be easy enough to follow three pits in succession, but they were so shallow, I got off course and lost. The second major screwup (> 10 min) has several contributing factors: 1) loss of concentration after running through the open fields on the map exchange, 2)again, not checking a bearing when the features seemed 'obvious', and 3) waited way too long to relocate (I couldn't believe I was that far off). I could have run back to the last control and spend less time.
Almost all the other splits were competitive--its the mistakes that are killing me.

Orienteering race (race) 1:06:00 [5] ***** 5.0 km (13:12 / km)
shoes: Montrail Highlander

Middle distance at Letchworth. Really hot. Two moderate screwups and not very good on any other. Had trouble seeing the map--lots of detail. Going to try different glasses tomorrow.

Road Running (speed) 52:00 [3] 6.0 mi (8:40 / mi)
shoes: Adidas Supernova

Lewis mills plus bollinger loop. Thinking about that 'explosive' workout discussion the other day. Ran a number of nearly flat-out 100m or so intervals, with some slower pace runs on the steeper hills. Definitely feel it in the hips/groin area. Probably the last hard workout before the weekend.
