Walking 46:00 [1] 2.65 mi (17:21 / mi)
shoes: Asics GT-2130 Trail

Walking the dogs (our dog Homer, and the dog from across the street that we're dog-sitting). From home, to the end of Woodland, through the woods to Heathland, to Maple, into Finn Park, once around the large field (stopping at a creek for the dogs to swim), then back.

Orienteering 2:55:22 [2] 6.54 mi (26:49 / mi) +1969ft 20:52 / mi
shoes: Montrail Mountain Masochist

Mini rogaine at Holiday Valley, put on by BFLO. Cheryl, Anne, and I teamed up to do the 3-hour category (options were 1.5, 3, and 5 hours). We would have liked to have done 5 hr but that would have gotten us back home later than any of us wanted to be out.

Considering we walked the entire time (not one step of running), I feel we did OK. We got 12 controls out of 27, but tried to focus on the high point ones. Although I thought we were successful doing that, I see we got only about 50% of the possible points (560 out of 1130). We easily won the lightly-contested 3-hour category, beating the second place team by 200 points. However, feet entered the 5-hour but nailed all 27 controls in around 2.5 hours, so we can hardly feel we truly won the 3-hour, since feet obviously should have entered the 3-hour rather than 5-hour where he would have totally cleaned up.

But all in all, we felt quite good about our outing. We had no major navigational errors (maybe a couple of a minute or two), never had to re-attack a control, and we believe our strategy was as good as it could have been, given the limitation in how much distance we were going to cover, being determined to not do any running. And we came very close to using all 3 hours that we had to work with, so we didn't feel we could have gone for any more controls.

Walking 1:39:00 [1] 6.3 mi (15:43 / mi)
shoes: Asics GT-2130 Trail

Took my car in to BJs to have all-season tires (which I had previously purchased from BJs, used last winter, and then took off for the summer) installed. It was going to be a 1:45 wait to get to the car, the another hour to do the work, so I took a longish walk, into the village of Webster, around some village streets, down 250 to Kittelberger, into North Ponds Park, 3/4 of a loop around the park, then back to BJs.

They still hadn't gotten to my car; about half an hour later, they did, and concluded that the weren't allowed to work on it because one of the valve stems (the tire pressure monitoring kind) had been broken; it worked OK as a valve but didn't monitor the tire pressure any more. The very frustrating thing is that, yes it had gotten broken, but it was broken by BJs when they put the tires on the first time. I hadn't gotten it replaced because having the pressure monitoring feature really wasn't a big deal to me. I pointed out that they were the ones who broke it, and they agreed, but still refused to work on it.

At least I got a long walk in while waiting to find out that they were not going to work on it.
