Mini rogaine at Holiday Valley, put on by BFLO. Cheryl, Anne, and I teamed up to do the 3-hour category (options were 1.5, 3, and 5 hours). We would have liked to have done 5 hr but that would have gotten us back home later than any of us wanted to be out.
Considering we walked the entire time (not one step of running), I feel we did OK. We got 12 controls out of 27, but tried to focus on the high point ones. Although I thought we were successful doing that, I see we got only about 50% of the possible points (560 out of 1130). We easily won the lightly-contested 3-hour category, beating the second place team by 200 points. However, feet entered the 5-hour but nailed all 27 controls in around 2.5 hours, so we can hardly feel we truly won the 3-hour, since feet obviously should have entered the 3-hour rather than 5-hour where he would have totally cleaned up.
But all in all, we felt quite good about our outing. We had no major navigational errors (maybe a couple of a minute or two), never had to re-attack a control, and we believe our strategy was as good as it could have been, given the limitation in how much distance we were going to cover, being determined to not do any running. And we came very close to using all 3 hours that we had to work with, so we didn't feel we could have gone for any more controls.
