Mendon sprint, Green course.
Finished a somewhat disappointing 7th out of 12 in my age group.
One big mistake, two moderate ones. The big one was going to #12 (a pine tree in a small section of white woods in between two dark green areas). I was sloppy approaching it and apparently got pulled to the left of where I wanted to go, and wound up in some "white with vertical green lines" area. I wandered around for a while, looking for a pine tree, with no success. Then I bailed out to Canfield Rd, about 100 m to the north, and found that I was way west of where I wanted to be. I then got back on track and found it, losing around 3 minutes.
One moderate one was #8, between two thickets. It looked like it was just south of where this trail ended near Canfield Rd, but I think the trail extended beyond what was shown on the map. There was a bit of confusion before I found it, losing 40 seconds.
The last mistake was going to the last control; I think I was still flustered from the big mistake on #12, so I took a very illogical route choice, losing 30 seconds.
My fitness level wasn't the greatest either, having not done any significant running in almost 2 weeks.
All in all, though, I was fairly pleased. Out of 14 controls, I did 11 of them reasonably efficiently, with split times in the ballpark of most others in my age group (although generally a little slower, but not all that much).
