Drove 2 hours north to the DVOA meet at Evansburg. Wyatt & Angelica Riley were directing and setting courses at this event. When I got there Mark Frank advised me that this place was very thick and thorny. He recommended to stay on trails as much as possible. This didn't sound like much fun. But then I talked to Wyatt, who aid he had remapped many of the areas around the controls. He said that there were many corridors of crossable forest. So I made the decision to use this as a training run and try to get a good read on the vegetation. I guess the first surprise on the early controls was the runnable areas that were mapped as dark green. This threw me off especially on control 5 as the mapped runnable corridor was much more than a corridor. More like a football field. I saw no green in sight and wandered a bit before finding the control.

I soon discovered that much of the dark green was green thorns that are next to invisible until you are actually entwined in them. All a good education for next week I guess.

Running 37:36 [3] 4.0 mi (9:24 / mi)

All trails here in Maryland are a sloppy mess after several days of storms. So I ran 4 miles on the roads. Sluggish at the beginning but upped the pace for the last mile.

Running 35:38 [3] 2.3 mi (15:30 / mi)

Raining this morning but needed to get some work in. Ran slowly along the Gunpowder River. The path had been recently flooded so it's condition had deteriorated since I last ran here in June. Although I was barely jogging the first 20 minutes my cold symptoms were keeping me uncomfortable. Warmed up and started to feel better during the 2nd half of the run.

Not sleeping. Feels like a cold coming on. Raining hard. Busy with the construction project at my parents house. Let's see, that is 4 good excuses for not running.
