GAOC day 2, Mistletoe State Park, 8C and sunny

A very good day.

I felt a bit nervous on the way to the first control, stopped and looked at another control that wasn't mine, but after that I settled down. And I knew where I was for the rest of the course (except for a single minute of distraction). This was so nice! I could move with confidence through the terrain! Winsplits says I lost time on 4-5, but that was physical, not mental.

I was even able to stay calm when I caught my friend Sandy B, who had started 12 minutes ahead of me. I was able to mostly ignore her as we left 5, got to 6 and headed to 7. The hardest was to ignore her when I found 7 first and was on my way to 8 and she looked a bit befuddled. But I did it!

I did lose time near the end, on 11. I was coming to the road with Rick Breseman passing me, and I had in my head that I had to hit the road and turn right to the power pole. I never saw the power pole right in front of me as I hit the road, but I did look at the reentrant as I ran up the road and then the placement of the power pole, and I figured it out very quickly. One minute time loss.

Wow, this felt good. To actually know where I was and where I wanted to go, for 95% of the course. My local practice sessions paid off! And thanks to bbrooke for the Larabar recommendation. Ended up fastest woman on green today (and I'm supposed to be on brown this year, but I'm just not ready, mentally)

run/walk warm up/down 20:00 [3]

The start and finish were right next to the parking, so I ran through the woods on the south side of the road to warm up. I didn't have a map or compass, was just wandering around. Suddenly I realized I didn't know where I was and which way was back to the start. And I had 6 minutes to my start. Ran out to the road, guessed which to go, finally saw an O direction sign. whew! Made it just in time

GAOC day 1, middle distance at Hard Labor Creek. Pouring rain, 15C.

A good day. Slow and careful, some minor bobbles, but no big blow ups!

My concentration was pretty good today. I usually knew where I was and where I wanted to go. Some hesitation on the way to 3 when I came across a deer trail, but I kept moving. Veered off my compass line a bit on 7. But that's it. I was so happy to have a fairly clean run, it had been a long time. Good way to start the weekend.

run/walk 20:00 [3]

A short outing around Holcom to move my legs and rest my mind. Crazy day. We are getting two bathrooms remodeled. I met with the contractor this morning to review all the tile layouts. They key item was a band of cobalt blue/light blue mixed tile, that would be an accent in the master shower. We picked it out over a year ago. When we opened the box, it was mostly light blue with some hints of cobalt. Not at all the impact tile I wanted.

Mean while, I was late for work, so I told the contractor I would decide later and rushed out the door. When I got to work, I discovered that I had left my computer at home! Agh, had to rush around work finding another computer, since I was running a teleconference in a few minutes. Got through my morning meetings, then rushed around to several tile stores with no luck. Also stopped at Home Depot to pick up the last few items which we needed

Back at work, get a text saying the electrician is coming a day earlier, do I have the fan? (which I had just bought). Rushed home to deliver the fan. Turns out the electrician was just checking things out, no work was being done today. Grrr.

Started looking online for tiles, found some that I like, but it cost $200 to ship them overnight. Then read the fine print, the overnight shipping is only after the 1-5 days prep time. Ugh. Guess we are not going to lay the tile on Thursday as scheduled.

Finally saw the same tile on Amazon, not Prime, had to pay a bit for shipping, but less than $200 and it will be here early next week. I'm willing to wait a bit to get the shower I wanted.

So, then I had time for a run, which was sorely needed and felt good. And next we are going to the KU basketball game, which is a rarity (my former boss has season tickets and couldn't go tonight).

orienteer race 57:52 [4]

PTOC score event at SMP. Temps around 3C, and light rain. Kept the attendance low, limited to a few die-hards.

I didn't think I would have time to get them all, so left a few to try to get at the end. I had forgotten my Garmin, so I hand-drew my route in the old school way.

I got tired near the end, but I kept pushing, reminding myself that I have three days in Georgia coming up and this was good practice. I had a pretty clean race, thankfully. One minor bobble following a wrong trail for a few meters. Also, had to adjust to a few (slightly) misplaced controls.
