Mike and I went to Rockcrusher. I have a light cold, so I did an easy course on trails. I tried to keep moving and look at my map often. However, my brain was a bit fuzzy and it was hard to concentrate. I did keep moving, but I also enjoyed this hike in the woods and took some time to notice some things around me (such as the remains of a deer). After I finished the course, I went back to explore the quarry area, which gave me some trouble last weekend.
It was cold today (-2) and I'm out of practice for dressing for winter O. I need to find some more of my cold weather clothes before tomorrow's event at SMP....
Orienteering practice at Rockcrusher. I ran the same course that Mike did yesterday. When I got to the parking area, I realized that I had left my Garmin on the charger at home. I really wanted to record my distance and track, so I searched for an app and downloaded Map My Walk, and started out.
This was a series of short courses (2 to 4 legs) separated by some trail runs. I walked the trail sections, and tried to run the courses. But the vegetation was pretty thick, so I ended up walking a lot. But I tried not to stop. Except for the second set, which had a lot of contour detail, and I got confused. So I stopped to check, and ended up going back a bit.
At one point, in the middle of the woods, I heard a strange sound and thought it might be an animal in a tree. But then it sounded like voices, and I looked around, quite startled. Seemed like the voices were right behind me but there was no one. I was pretty nervous for a second, until I figured out that my new app was updating me after one mile :)
This was a fun outing, glad I got out of the house. When I got home, I found out that I could export the GPS track on the website. I tried to log in, but it didn't recognize my email address. Must have had fat fingers in the field, and mis-typed it. So, I can't get the data after all :)
