Orienteering race 42:54 [3] 3.4 km (12:37 / km) +100m 11:00 / km

That was fun. Really fun navigating and nothing annoying like flies or lots of thick vegetation.

Emma won the open sprint yesterday, and Isabel won her course today.

Hiking 2:00:00 [2]

Solo hike up to Cairn Gorm from the base of the funicular. It was very windy, with some driving rain, but it cleared as I made the final ascent, treating me to some great views.

Orienteering race 1:21:36 [3]

Did poorly on this race. Day 2 of Scottish 6-day. I had trouble finding #5, losing 8 or 9 minutes. Otherwise, just slow. Enjoyed reading the map though.

Teaching 15:00 [3]

Talked with the kids - heard some of their feedback - thanked them - told them I want to start a team that would compete at the Interscholastics Champs, and laid out my vision for orienteering in Cambridge.

They gave me a nice picture of birds, and thank-you notes made in the shape of my Cat in the Hat orienteering hat!

"I admit I had fun at the Fells. I didn't think I would like it so much."

Let's see, other comments from this morning:
I saw a frog.
I liked being in the wild; I've read a lot of books about big cats in the wild so it was fun to actually go there.
I liked being timed when we raced.
I liked putting together the puzzle.
We were lost but then I heard my friend's voice. [--> Discussion about using all your senses in orienteering.]
I stepped in a rotting log and there were lots of insects.
I saw daddy long legs and I either ran away or stepped on them. [Commentary from me about all the creatures on the earth...]
There was lots of screaming.
A kid and a teacher had a different idea about where to go, and the kid was right but the teacher had them go her way. Discussion about how to share evidence and reach consensus on the right way to go.
