Orienteering 1:25:05 [3] 6.0 mi (14:11 / mi)

Green X Classic at Camp Buckner. Fun.
15 seconds before my start, I realized I did not have a compass. That's because I was almost late for my start, and rushed out of the van without the thing. Fortunately you could see the sun, screened by clouds so it was easier to take a bearing off of. (Also nice because cooler than yesterday.) Later in my course, the sun shone more strongly but that was OK because then I was headed away from the sun and was able to take direction off my shadow. No compass meant being more in touch with the terrain. More forest eye candy time without the distraction of The Machine.

Orienteering 3:02:41 [3]

Blue at Camp Buckner. 10:54 start.
I'd found Peter Z in between races, so I gave him back his compass. I'd bought a $14.95 compass from GO the previous evening. That's what I used on this blue course.
Saw Gail & Peter G at start. Tried to stretch a little. Nice and cool; sun was shaded. Smelled like spring to die for.

Orienteering race 30:00 [3]

red/blue sprint in the morning. Time is approximate. Last finisher, pretty much. Had woken in Cambridge at 3:20 a.m.; showered, finished packing, drove to JFK (on the way tried to stop for Dunkin Donuts and lost 15 minutes to no avail), was 15 minutes late to pick Dave up at curbside, drove to West Point, stopping at a deli along the way, and me hearing about Dave's far east cruise, and Dave hearing about the kids and chickens and whatnot, and both of us pretty beat but somewhat wired.
Dave started first, 2 minutes before me. I was last start, so they took down the stuff behind me as I progressed. At 38 seconds behind my start whistle (i.e., 8 seconds before the whistle to move up from the 2nd to the start line), Peter Z ran up and handed me his "extra" compass which I'd asked to borrow earlier. I wonder if he actually had another. I hope so.

Orienteering 1:00:46 [3]

Green X course, Middle distance. Great fun to have that new map.

Orienteering 1:33:41 [3]

Blue middle at West Point. Quite nice. Hot. Sunny.

Bicycling 4:00 [1]

So all my attempts at exercise and healthful living, in preparation for the rogaine, have pretty much failed so now I'm going to start cramming. At West Point. Yeah.

Bicycling 30:00 [2]

To Boston and back. For our company's one-year anniversary. My coworker Angela and I interviewed 40 people in or related to the company and I pulled together an 80-page oral history with a scattering of photos. We handed it out last night. It came out great. I think it will have a positive effect on everyone's knowledge of the big picture here.
