Middle in the contour-happy hydromining section of the map. Some of the terrain was pretty cool, but I felt like we had a lot of crappy control locations and legs that were just brutal climbs and descents in and out of the vertical dirt gullies, with lots of unmapped green added in there for fun.

Ultralong champs in Idaho City. Hot and long, but the woods were really nice - a lot like Tahoe with a some more crap on the ground. The navigation was straightforward, everything was on well defined features and I didn't really have any trouble with anything.

I felt ok running all the way through, and was only getting a little tired towards the end. The past month of long-runs-at-noon must have helped with the heat, despite being 100-something degrees all I drank was about 2/3 of the waistbelt bottle the whole time.

Note

The wind shifted last night and the smoke from the fire in south lake came up our direction, so it's pretty gross outside in truckee. Also it was 90-something degrees out. Though now we're driving across Nevada and it hasn't dropped below 100 in a couple hours (and the sun has almost set).

Setting flags for Wednesday night training, which only Carol came to. Super hot out, and various parts of my back have been sore all day, so there wasn't much speed going on jumping over all the sage.

Didn't feel like racing it again afterwards, so I was going to just go map for a bit while Carol ran, but then I remembered how stupid mapping with paper and pen is so I bailed and went home.
