11 AM

run 45:16 [3] 4.57 mi (9:55 / mi) +176m 8:51 / mi

Easy run around TD. Have to start training so I can start to taper for next weekend.
2 PM

kayak 1:33:22 [3] 9.69 km (9:38 / km) +45m 9:25 / km

Long paddle all the way around Donner Lake. It was nice and warm and completely calm, very nice out on the water. Also that is the most pleasingly rounded gps track ever.

Note

The newest truckeeOC recruit happens to have connections with the town sanitation department (as in he's probably in charge of it or something), and thus has lidar data of various parts of town, and convinced them we were a worthy use of it. So I spent the flight down to Burbank this morning ghettocadding contours of donner lake and giggling, which is apparently not what the boring business people usually do on the 6am flight.

This was more fun than yesterday, mostly because it was probably less interesting terrain, so I could dislike it while having a nice grassy ridge run.

Saw a couple vultures circling on the way to one of the early controls, then saw a couple in a tree, then came over the top of the spur and saw 30+ of them in a pile having a vulture-fest. Fresh deer carcass on the hillside, right about where I wanted to run by. I dodged it by a little bit, which seemed to disperse many of the vultures, and I was hoping I seemed less exciting than the dead stuff. That might have been fun for the later starters once the mountain lions got a whiff of it.
