mtn bike 1:15:50 [3] 10.27 mi (8.1 mph) +311m

Its super smokey outside, from a new fire down by Yosemite, so I haven't really left the house since Wednesday night. But I got antsy and went out anyway. Not great, but not too painful.

Wednesday night orienteering up on Fiberboard Freeway. It thunderstormed in the afternoon, so the smoke was up high and not a problem, though we had a constant dark orange glow from the sun which made everything look like Mordor. But the views over the lake looked sweet and somewhat creepy. The map up there is good, and the forest is open with blowdown.

I set the flags in a mostly different order than I ran them, and Jonis and I were together for much of it, until he got really lost and I got ahead, then I tripped and fell in some rocky ground and demolished my knee (also my elbow and my hip). That'd be the part right after 3k where the speed tanks and then ramps back up over the next 5 minutes. I walked for a bit then started jogging, and it felt pretty ok by the end. Four hours later it feels terrible and is growing steadily bigger. It'll probably be great in the morning.

Trail intervals at TD. The smoke set in around 11:30 this morning (normally its not until 2 or 3), which wasn't the greatest. It was either going to get smokier later or rain and get better, but I didn't really want to count on rain so I went out anyway. In the end it wasn't too bad, my throat only hurts a little, though I got a pretty good bloody nose towards the end. Stupid summer.

hiking 1:00:00 [1] 5.0 mi (12:00 / mi)

Carol's work has a corporate challenge program to hike some sections of the rim trail, so we went down to south lake and did two of the short ones - one to a big pointy rock and another to a sandy waterfall.
