skate ski warm up/down 25:42 [2] 5.4 km (4:45 / km) +26m 4:39 / km
shoes: 11 fischer rcr skio (110)

In VT for the weekend races. Warming up on the normal ski-o skis, which seemed ok with the HF coldish wax I had on there. So I switched to the backup crappy skis to warm up on so I wouldn't wreck the good ones. I hadn't touched them since Kazakhstan last year, where they went from brand new to very destroyed in three races, and still had whatever CH junk travel wax I put on them after Kaz. So I scraped them, and they were faster than the good skis. Go figure.

New England Champs WRE sprint.
This went pretty much perfectly, with a couple little nitpicky mistakes. 3-4 I went down around on the trail, when cutting over the stone wall turned out to be much shoter and faster, though at race time I couldn't tell so I didn't want to risk it. 13-14 I went north through the little field, down the nookTM trail then north again into the big field, basically a repeat of 6-7 since I had already done it and didn't have to think, but it definitely would have been faster to just take the trail that went right to 14 instead of cutting up past 7. Scored the win by a minute, and got some crazy bonus loophole WRE points.

ski-o! 38:02 [3] 4.73 km (8:02 / km) +129m 7:04 / km

Cooldown checking out some more controls and general heckling.

Sprint relay! On a team with Amy Lane, ghetto touchless punching, and lots of crazy short loops. It was awesome, but then again sprint relays always are.

Control pickup up the hill with Ali.

Same courses as yesterday, but backwards. Trails were a little more solid today, some sections were quite nice and speedy fast, but others we still all powder and you could tell they weren't ever going to set up unless I drive them again, ideally while its warm. Also I fixed up lots of things on the map, like junctions and contours, but didn't bother to print a new set, so I was trying to remember where all the changes were while I was skiing. I think it did help in route choice, even if I forgot a bunch of them.

Speedy flat afternoon ski around TD. Skis felt super duper fast.

Note

Ski-o tour photos and maps. Mostly Ali winning things, but she occasionally left the podium so Dad and Sharon could collect their giant prize baskets.

Anyway another quite good ski-o tour. All good races, and the usual crowd of racers and organizers. My first couple races were a little rough, from being sick and the timezones, but the last ones started to get back into the swing of things.

Afternoon ski around TD. Europe may have ski-o and stuff, but this place still wins. Sunny and warm and just starting to glaze over. Felt pretty sleepy from four hours of sleep last night (and a 30 hour day), but felt good skiing.

Also I made ski-o! Got out on the snowmobile this morning to start some trails in Prosser. The snow is nice and solid and I had zero problems driving this time. Didn't get too exciting will the hilly parts yet, most of it was on the flats, but I'm starting to get the hang of this driving stuff. Also the hilly bits I did do got a whole lot easier once I figured out how to engine-brake the snowmobile. Just did a little corner, there's lots more terrain out there, but we'll see how this sets up tomorrow and then go play!

Ski-o tour sprint relay. Adrian and I in the open elite class, since neither of us are women. It was crazy and icy and super fast, with more big trails than the last couple days, but enough insane woodsy downhills to keep things interesting. I did fairly well on all my loops, except right off the start on the first loop where I bailed in the middle of a field 100m from the start. Started recognizing a lot of the trails, but that also meant I knew which ones I could do at speed which was sort of fun.

Cool down around the big trail loop with Adrian while we were waiting for dad and Sharon to finish.
