CSU A-meet at pine hill, morning qualification. Got nicely lost going to 1, then a few mistakes on some random controls here and there, but nothing else too disasterous.
2 PM

orienteering race 40:39 intensity: (25 @0) + (5 @1) + (45 @2) + (3:09 @3) + (33:29 @4) + (2:46 @5) *** 5.53 km (7:21 / km) +133m 6:34 / km

Final in the afternoon. Started two minutes in front of Mikkel, and then messed up 1 again, so I was afraid he'd catch me, but he did the same thing I did, so it worked out. I suppose. All clean until 11, where I wandered around a bit before bailing to the big trail to relocate and then get lost again. Ok after that.

mapping 1:00:00 [1] ***

Amherst, windy and cold, but at least it wasn't hailing.

"What are you doing?"
"I'm making an orienteering map."
"Orienteering, isn't that when you go through the woods with a compass?"
"Yes officer."
"So you also do it on college campuses?"
"And cornfields."

Most of the day out mapping part of UMass Amherst, in the rain and hail.

orienteering 1:12:30 [0] ** 4.51 km (16:05 / km) +247m 12:38 / km

Running around Killington with dad to check out the terrain for a future map / a-meet. Not too thick in most places, so ok to run around in.

sprint race of much deviousness. I had a mistake on each leg...

control pickup, though everybody else got them all, so I just ran around to where a couple of them used to be.

Another ski-o sprint around VT, but the real course this time, dad dug up some extra maps from the winter. Pretty close to the one I did yesterday, so I ran it backwards.

orienteering 5:44 intensity: (1 @0) + (17 @1) + (23 @2) + (1:20 @3) + (3:43 @4) *** 1.04 km (5:30 / km) +26m 4:54 / km

cooldown lap around some controls at the bottom of the hill.

Note

Andrew got his pictures up from the climb in China. Still working on mine, but I've got the first half: shanghai and lhasa.

We also kept random notes of the daily hilarity that tends to occur to us on these trips, so I'll go back and fill in some log entries once I have the photos to back them up.

1 PM

orienteering 18:02 intensity: (6 @1) + (5 @2) + (6:00 @3) + (11:51 @4) *** 3.06 km (5:53 / km) +102m 5:03 / km

in VT. Ran the ski-o sprint from the races last year at dad's house. Not the exact same course, the map I found was one of the earlier revisions, but its close enough. Looks like I ski faster than I run, even with lots of shortcuts today.
